I just ran a cost estimate for UT - Austin for my DS who is a rising senior. IF he were to make it through the admission process as an out of state student, are there any scholarships available for Mechanical Engineering students that would help with the tuition? He has a high ACT and a 3.90 unweighted / 4.0 weighted GPA. His class rank is not that great in comparison - top 13%.

Since he is going for mechanical engineering, check on the cockerell school site for scholarships.
UT seems to be very much into class rank. For the fall 2014 class, the top 7% of in staters are going to be automatically admitted. They are going to have higher expectations from out of state. That’s what we came away with during the visit.

Thank you! We’re going down in a few weeks anyway, so I’ll see, but it’s not looking good money wise or class rank wise! :)
