Netbook + desktop vs Notebook

Still debating whether I should save a couple hundred, and just purchase a netbook as to purchasing a notebook, which would serve as a desktop replacement.

My desktop tower is huge, a Dell Dimension. Would it even fit in the desk at Middle Earth dorms?

I'm looking into purchasing a netbook for about $300, or the laptop, which is the Gateway NV1214u, for $500.

Any advice?

depends what you are using it for? I am highly thinking of getting a netbook since I just surf the net , write papers, and play pokemon game :)which arent so big. Plus I am a Public Policy major at UCR so no big applications on it

macbook pro is the only way to go

i have a laptop. its fine outside of the fact that i cant really game on it (13 incher).

in retrospect, i wish i’d got some cheapo laptop (ala woot.com) and bought a desktop to game on.

if you dont plan on gaming (and dont have a console), just stick with a laptop.
beware of using netbooks exclusively- the keyboards are almost always undersized, so writing long term papers and what not can be problematic.

sidenote: if you are doing sciences/engineering, you wont really use computers until sophomore/junior year ish. unless you do lots of programming. additionally, ive found that its easier to get engineering apps to run on PC then on macs. or they will run equally well. rarely do they work better on the mac.

also, macs are pretty overpriced. seriously. if you want to ■■■■■ about computers, go to the computer forum.

if you have a mac, your going to have a hard time with engineering programs since most people use PC for engineering.
