Netbooks and college

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about buying a netbook for college (most likely the Samsung NC10). I'll use it mostly for lecture notes, library studying, and maybe internet for research. Do I have to sign a contract with one of the cellphone companies (AT&T, Vodafone, etc) to get internet access or can I just use my school's wireless network? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am highly un-tech savvy.

Thanks for your help!

Nope, you can just use the school’s wireless network. You only need a cell contract if you plan to use a carrier’s data plan to get mobile internet access.

Certain netbooks/notebooks offer the cellular service as a bonus, but it’s never a requirement. All of them will let you use the school’s network.

OK, great thanks! Wait, would having a data plan be useful?

Just use the school’s.
