Netbooks and MIT....

Is it crazy for me to consider using a netbook such as the Asus EeePC 1000HE as a primary computer for computer engineering major? Do they have the "oomph" to run the required software? They have atom 1.6GHz cpu and 1gb ram
If not I'll just grab a C2D 2.0ghz with 3gb ram laptop...no bigs
The only reason I'm asking is that I fell in love with these lil 10inch buggers..and I don't like to use more than one computer...(transferring data and such between them is such a hassle imo)

netbooks are brutally slow in my opinion. theyre nice for jus checking email or word processing or something. my suggestion is to get a small laptop thats portable, say 13", around the size of amacbook. and get an external monitor… thats the setup i have.

My friend has a netbook and a desktop. He uses his netbook primarily to take notes in class and then the desktop to code / write papers. I would want to stab myself in the eyes if I could only code on a 10" screen, but all of your programs will probably run fine. You can also wait until second semester to decide if you want to get a desktop or not; you probably won’t be doing anything in your major at least until then.

Cool, thanks for the replies!
