fordham is ranked 67th in USnews and NEU at 96th.
For some reason, i'm more inclined toward NEU though. I guess it just overall looks friendlier. Also, my cousin who studied in NYC for one year told me that Fordham is in the downtown region of the city and is pretty dead at night, unlike the areas of NYU. He tells me that in NYC, crossing a block or even a street can make a lot of difference to the environment you'll find yourself in.

In terms of academics, i applied (transfer) as a Mathematics major. My main goal however is to go to med school so I'm doing whatever's left of my premed course. If I go to NEU and if possible, I might even consider a change of major to SLP.

In terms of environment, one's in Boston, one's in NYC. Although I shouldn't be too distracted by this, there is this urge that wants to go NYC although I think it isn't that strong in me anymore.

Also, I'm awaiting responses from BU. Assuming I do get in, how does that compare with these 2 schools? I believe it's better ranked and more reputable, but am afraid that the quality of individual education may be somewhat less due to its huge size.

What about people? What are the people in these schools like if there are any stereotypes?

Thanks!!!!

Son attends NU and very much enjoys being part of the Boston experience and the quality of his courses, living conditions and all the activities the school has to offer. It's been a very positive experience except for a few "customer service" type issues I'm sure many school suffer from.

He also has many friends who attend Fordham and are equally well served. BTW, Fordham is in the Bronx and not 'downtown" Manhattan though they have a Lincoln Center campus which I believe is focused more on the performing arts. The main Bronx campus is not your typical urban campus, but has a bit of a traditional college campus feel unlike NYU for instance. NU is like Fordham, city but a bit seperate from being right off the street. Boston University is more like NYU.

I was accepted to BU, Fordham and NEU too! I decided on NEU, they gave me the best financial aid package but also for the co-op program. Boston is fun, and only four hours away from new york (just hop on a lucky bus for 10 bucks and you're in nyc!). I think that boston is a great place to meet people our age, it's a student town, full of energy and excitment! I felt that NYC was too touristy and....I heard that it smells in the summer :)

I would go Neu! Fordham seems strict on their core curriculum and Bu, well it's too pricey! That's just my opinion!

humtaro, you mentioned a possible change of major to SLP. My daughter is starting in that program in the fall. Very well recognized and established.

Have you visited any of these schools, What school are you transferring from? I have not been to Fordham but BU and NEU have very different campuses.

It really depends on where you would be most comfortable, can't imagine making a decision without visiting the schools first.

That being said, NEU is know for its coop and its big upswing in the last several years in selectivity.

If you have any questions specific to NEU let me know, I have another daughter there in the college of engineering.

I went on a tour at Fordham and believe me, if you're not Christian you won't like it there. Also you have to take like two religion courses, which I think is a waste of money unless you're doing anthropology. And they have, what seems to me, their main campus in the Bronx (or Brooklyn, can't remember) which is supposedly a freakishly dangerous place. So once all is said and done, I'd chose NEU over Fordham any day.

Well I won't have the chance to visit the campus. I'm an international student although transferring from another school in the states. Currently, for summer, I'm out of the states.
Cost and credits transferable, once finalized, will be the biggest factor in my decision, but I'm planning ahead should they all be about the same.

Will I be able to utilize the coop program to any or a decent degree considering I'm a transfer with about 60 out of ~130 credits transferring in. Depending on the situation, I might have to take more than 70 credits to finish it anyway but I hope to graduate in 2 years time (with summer classes).

I've been reading mostly negative things about Fordham in these forums. Safety and strict school policies.

I don't know if I can do SLP because like mentioned, I want to graduate soon. I'm already 23.

Fordham has a far better academic reputation (here in Pennsylvania) than Northeastern and the Bronx location is not as dangerous as people make it out to be (Bronx Zoo, Little Italy and The Botanical Gardens are next to Fordham). However, since you are a junior transfer and premed, you should go to the school that takes most of your credits so you can graduate on time. Also you might be exempt from the core curriculum since you are a transfer.
