I got accepted to both BU (33k scholarship) and NEU (20k scholarship) but i have a lot of trouble deciding. I plan on doing engineering (probably electrical or computer but im not 100% sure). I like NEU for their co-op program and their campus, but BU has more funding and seems to have better facilities in terms of labs and their EPIC building. I'm definitely leaning towards NEU but not sure that it worth the extra 13k. I also heard that there is a new building being built for NEU. Can anyone share their experience with BU or NEU in terms of engineering?

They are both good schools and you will get a good education at either one of them. The co-op program is really great for getting job experience and improving your resume before you graduate, but you have to think about whether it’s worth an extra $13k a year. That’s an extra $52k over the course of college. Co-op will not make up all of that. Can you afford that much more? If not, that makes the decision for you, even though I think Northeastern is a great school.

My family has already discussed that it is possible that we can put out an extra 13k, but I’d rather not put more money in just for the co-op. When I toured both NEU and BU, I thought BU’s facilities were much more modern and robust than what I saw at NEU. I really do like NEU more then BU in terms of the atmosphere and feel of the campus, but I don’t think that “atmosphere” is worth it esp. if BU’s facilities are superior.

@confusedtape It is funny you posted this because I just got accepted as a transfer student to Northeastern (For electrical and computer engineering) while my best friend is choosing BU (for biomedical engineering). I personally chose Northeastern more because like you said the “atmosphere” as well as the co-op. He chose BU because biomedical research is currently a more available option there. However, regarding the co-op, I have heard plenty of students at Northeastern receiving co-ops with salaries anywhere from 20-40$ which can help with tuition itself as well as building your resume. As for the facilities, I really did not think the facilities were substantially better at BU. The new building you were interested in learning about at NEU will be completed by 2016 and is a joint building between engineering and the life sciences. A little more information on it can be seen here: http://www.payette.com/project/2187873-interdisciplinary-science-and-engineering-complex as well as on the Northeastern website. Either option you choose I am sure you will do just fine. Both schools are excellent and will prepare you for the workforce or graduate school upon completion. Good luck!

Yes, NEU broke ground on a state-of-the-art Engineering building a few months ago.
