NEU vs. SUNY Binghamton

I was admitted to both Northeastern and Binghamton, and i absolutely love Northeastern. I really liked the atmosphere as well as the coop program. I was also offered 10k a year. However Binghamton tuition is only 6K per year since i live in New York. Right now I am undecided on a major. Do you think it is worth it to spend 40K a year on Northeastern, when Binghamton is just as academic and much cheaper?

Same thing here, my daughter was accepted into both. She has a jan start for NU and a fall start for Binghamton but in the college of human development? not harpur. She is also admitted into Stony Brook. We are trying to decide what to do. Our thinking is she starts off at Stony Brook and then goes to NU for the Jan start. Some people suggested that she goes to Binghamton as it is much more economical than NU. She is going to study International Affairs and loves the idea of co-op. Does anyone have an opinion on this?

@again: NU’s International Affairs program is amazing (I just declared IAF)! There are so many opportunities to study/co-op abroad-- it’s incredible. Let me know if you have any questions about IAF at NU!

No, definitely not worth it!! You will get the same exact education at Binghamton as you would at Northeastern. Northeastern is just more expensive because of the location and appearance-only reason why it’s so popular.

I agree with britt420, although Undecided is a popular major at NEU, there’s obviously no big difference in the ‘program’ than SUNY’s.
I would recommend going to SUNY Binghamton, it’s a great school for a much cheaper price.
Going to NEU would be more practical along the road when you decide your major/it’s program at Northeastern.

Binghamton doesn’t offer an international affairs or International relations major.

They offer political science with a concentration in global and international affairs…

It’s making this upcoming decision very difficult for me.

I can’t beat Binghamton’s price… but I’m worried about the political science major…
I’d also like to pick up a minor or major in journalism
which Binghamton doesn’t offer…

I’m just going to visit Binghamton and see what this political science program has to offer.

If you want to study international affairs, i would definitely go to Northeastern. Of what i have heard, the program is great, and you can do coop abroad. I personally chose Binghamton because i dont know what i want to study. I will probably whined up going to grad school, so i would rather save my money by going to a SUNY and then paying for grad school later. Plus Binghamton is a great school!
