Neurology and Biomedical Engineering

Hello ,
I talked about this in another forum but i
I'd like to here some more input. So I'm a junior in high school searching for the right path for me to take in college. I am very interested in Biomedical Engineering and also Neurology. I think of having a background in those two and using the Neurology side as my main profession (probably opening my own practice or work in a hospital etc.) but I'd also like to use my BME background to work in prosthesis that connects with the brain etc. Is this a realistic thing to do? The fact that I see minimal info online makes me wonder if it is or not. if it is, what route would you recommend? like schools majors pr anything. Thanks for any input.

are you think double major?
It would be difficult to double engineering with something else. Another problem could be finding a “good” school that offers programs in both of these.

no i want to study bme as an undergrad then go to med school for neurology. sorry should’ve made myself clearer

BME + pre med = no social life

If you add a neuro minor to that idk

(depends on the school)

BME + pre med is still fine considering that the BME major covers majority of the pre med requirements. However, doing well in the classes is the hard part

BME with a strong EE focus would be my best advice. You would probably have to get a master’s because BME itself doesn’t provide you enough engineering background to be good at the engineering side. You will learn tons on the Neurology side during residency. BME teaches you a little about everything but not everything about any one engineering discipline.

why do BME if your goal is to ultimately become a doctor? You can do something easy like history with premed. Non-science majors actually have a higher chance of getting into med school.

BME majors on average score the highest on the MCAT. The major, like any engineering major, will be very hard.
