Just wondering if any of you have taken Neuro m101a and 102. Do you think I should take those two classes along with Chem 14CL, or would this be a little excessive.

There doesn't seem to be much info on Neuro m101a or 102. Can anyone give me some perspective on how hard these classes are, how much time one spends per week/day studying for these classes, etc.

I’m taking both NS classes next fall, they are supposedly very difficult due to extremely detailed and dense material. Not difficult concepts, just LOTS of memorization, details, and reading. I would advise not taking 14CL with those two classes since labs are time consuming. I don’t think 14CL is difficult, it just will take up a lot of your time you could be using to study for your NS classes. Unless you need 14CL as a prereq (I don’t think anything has that prereq), take an easier class next fall. Hope to see you in my class!

I took these classes this past Fall (2011). m101A is split into 3 modules where a different professor teaches each module. At the end of each module, there is a midterm. The last midterm is the “final” since it’s during finals week. In addition to the midterms, we had to read papers and there were weekly discussion quizzes. You were also required to attend 2 seminars. I felt that only one of the three modules was conceptual; the other 2 had some conceptual stuff but was more similar to LS2 in terms of style (i.e. more memorization based).

102 was a tough class. The professors were teaching it for the first time and our class was the guinea pig. This class is pure memorization and very time consuming unless you’re really fast at memorizing. I know a lot of students were complaining about this class and the way the tests were structured and how stringent the professors were. However, since these guys will be teaching it for their 2nd time, I bet that the class will be much better.

I personally would not advise you to take 14CL with these 2 classes, especially if you are involved with outside engagements such as research, volunteering, organizations etc. I took Stats 13 (it’s required for the NS major), and felt that it was a manageable 3rd class.

Feel free to ask any more questions you may have.
