I'm a sophomore and I really want to go to Vassar.(or Wesleyan, Trinity...) I think that I might want to be a psychiatrist (doctor psychologist). I wanted to know if I should major in Neuroscience or Psych for this career? Which would be more useful? As well, I love to write ( I want to write a screenplay) so can I take writing courses even though i would major in Psych/Neurosci?

Neuroscience would be more useful, as Psychiatry is now more physiologically-centered, so you would learn more about neurotransmitters, brain regions, etc. Ultimately it wouldn't matter very much, however - Vassar's psych. majors get into med. school too, and they just teach everything to you all over again, anyway.

You would be able to take writing courses as a psych. major. Be warned, however, that the composition courses are extremely difficult to get in to.

I don't know anyone who was in a neuroscience program at another school, so I have no way to judge in that respect. Most of the neuro. people I know who recently graduated are either in medical school or working at places like Johns Hopkins or UPenn, though, so I imagine it is pretty good.

Every room most definitely does not have a private bathroom - none do (with the possible exception of the Rocky Suite in Joss). There is usually one bathroom per hallway, and they're all co-ed.

Wesleyan has an awesome neuro program too, since you said you were thinking wes too. I think colgate has a good one too.

Wesleyan's unique in that you can stay a 5th year and get a masters tuition free, and this should give you more research exposure and make it easier if you want to work for a few years or be more qualified when applying to med school.

I can't think of a single college that could afford to have a private bathroom for every room. So you should try to get used to the idea :)

I'm probably going to Vassar for either Cog Sci or Neuroscience. The good thing about Vassar is that you can major in Neuro, fulfil all your med-school requirements (for me, vet school), and still take tons of courses outside your major.

Thanks! My sister said that SUNY-Binghamton has private bathrooms (or at least the dorm that her boyfriend lives in) I'm a sophomore so I'll time to think over the whole neuro/ psych thing. The only thing is that I'm not a HUGE science person (i'm good at it, i have like a 92 average in AP Bio) but I think I like the whole emotional, aspect of the mind, not the phsyical aspect of it. I'll figure it out. Hopefully

I'll be schillin at wes enjoying all of it :-)
Yeah, I was initially considering Vassar, but the location left a lot to be desired in my opinion. Plus to anyone who says that Vassar and Wesleyan are worlds apart, it isn't true.
This is interesting info :-)

Shows how many students get into the top 15 grad programs and the results are very good for both wes and laff, even some of the Ivy's are missing from this. So consider yourself in good company if you go to either of the two schools :-)
