Neuroscience vs Biomedical Engineering

I'm trying to decide between the two. I could major in one, minor in the other, double major, only do one, etc.
I'm hoping to ultimately go to med school and become a surgeon.

What should I do/study?

Also are any top schools particularly strong in neuroscience?

Go with neuroscience. Less, unit requirements and better opportunities to maintain a high GPA. No need to minor in BME since its not a good terminal major at the bs level.

If you are planning to go to med school and actually follow through with that plan - it doesn’t matter.
However, it’s good to have a backup plan, in case med school doesn’t work out or you just plain change your mind (which is what happened to me). In that case, neither of these fields has the best job prospects with just a BS. However, with a masters, BME would have better prospects. Also, there’s usually not a big benefit to the double major, especially for med school (where it can be potentially detrimental if the course load ends up hurting your GPA).

I’d recommend starting out taking the initial classes for both of them. You don’t have to decide right away. In all likelihood, one of them will draw your time and interest more, and the decision will become easier.
