Neuroscience!

I want to spend my undergrad years studying neuroscience, but unfortunately I've heard that most colleges don't offer neuroscience for undergrads, saying that it's too specified. My other best shot is to do biomedical engineering, but if I do that I want to focus on the brain. Is this possible, or do biomed students have to spread their studies equally along the human body?

The human body is more than the sum of its’ parts. One problem with the allopathic system of teaching medical science is that it isolates the body into separate parts. It does not teach holistically or as I prefer, wholistically. So if you are unwilling to study the whole “human body” you are already on the wrong path.

Having said that, have you looked at Amherst’s superb program for undergrads in neuroscience and Case Western Reserve’s special undergrad opportunities?

Check your academic profile. How does it match up with those two schools?

Depending on what type of neuroscience (some programs fall under neuroscience, some under biology dept, some under psychology dept.)here are some schools to consider: Colgate, Brown, U Miami (has neurobiology and Psychobiology), Princeton (I think it has a certificate, not major). Compare schools’ curriculum requirements and offerings. Also helpful to get a broad biology base.

There are lots of past posts on neuro schools so go to the top of the page and do a search to find more schools.

Johns Hopkins offers a top 3 undergraduate program in neuroscience as well as #1 ranked biomedical engineering program in the US.

William and Mary has an undergrad neuroscience program.

Lafayette College has a Neuroscience major.

Vassar offers a great interdisciplinary program called Neuroscience and Behavior [The Neuroscience and Behavior Program at Vassar College](http://neuroscienceandbehavior.vassar.edu/) taught by the biology and psychology departments. Great program!

Washington University in St. Louis has a major called P-N-P (Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology). The major allows you to explore three areas and how they are interrelated. Study the brain from the thinking side, physiological side, emotional side. My D loves it!

i believe ucla offers neuroscience, additionally wustl offers this unique program with neuroscience philosophy and i believe psychology. which should mean wustl should offer it.

I believe Union in Schenectady, NY offers a neuroscience major for undergrads. My friend’s sister is currently in that program and absolutely loves it.
