bump already!!

To me, it looks like you have a good shot at Vandy.

bump already? LOL, you think people are just waiting around to answer your post? Anyway, your GPA is good, ACT great. EC’s are heavy on volunteer work (for great causes, don’t get me wrong), but do you have other interests like playing an instrument or singing, or sports or something else? It would help some.

Vandy ED is tough, but possible. I would say 50-50, maybe a little better. About the same chances at Emory. Princeton and Dartmouth are pretty big reaches, I am thinking maybe 15% chance at either. You will be fine at Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida and Tulane, and should get some merit scholarship money from the last. I would make a guess at $22,000/year, and that is before any financial aid calculations.

If Vandy is your absolute first choice, I recommend you visit ASAP if you haven’t already. Also attend at least one local event. The more interest you show the better. If you have not visited yet, it would probably be worth also catching a cheap flight on Southwest from Nashville to New Orleans and seeing Tulane on the same trip. Show enough interest, it might help bump your merit scholarship up. Tulane does not have a large Hispanic representation, maybe 3%? I forget exactly. So they would be anxious to have a good student like yourself. Finally, while you are at it, have you considered Rice? Seems like it might fit your profile, and again you could catch a cheap flight from New Orleans to Houston Hobby and be at Rice in no time.

Good luck!

GPA is a bit low and your ECS lack distinction and leadership, but Vandy ED should not be a problem for you. I’d say you’re in.

Not sure how you can say his EC’s lack leadership, he was founder and President of one, VP of another, and Treasurer of one he calls minor. Not sure what one has to do to show leadership in your book. I would move the EC’s with leadersip to the the top though. People often stop reading part way through.

I think you definitely have a great chance at Vandy. :)

Thanks everyone for the replies. I’m really hoping for Vandy! I’ve already visited and I spoke to my admissions counselor so hopefully I have a good shot.

bump bump! anyone else?

already on second page! BUMP

I think you have gotten all the input that is meaningful. Frankly, it doesn’t matter what anyone on here says anyway. It isn’t like the admissions officers read this and say “Oh, the people on CC think he should get in, so I will admit him”. LOL. What do you think people can say that will make a difference? Other than a few minor suggestions like visiting (which you did) and some presentation issues, chance threads are pretty worthless. They are most useful when someone is applying only to schools they are unlikely to get into, so they are told to make sure they apply to safeties also. That is not the case with you, so there really is nothing useful to add.
