New admission percent. posted?! 25% ed?!!!

As Rice becomes ever more popular, admission rates have to drop. Applicants are fortunate that Rice has been in a growth mode (now complete) otherwise admission rates would be even lower. Details of the colleges growth plans are given here:

If admissions stays with its “traditional” 30% of the class being filled by ED candidates we can assume they will admit 0.30 x (freshman class size) = 0.3*935 = 280 students.
Given the reports that there have been 1000 ED applicants the ED admit rate should be 28% this year.

From Rice – these are accurate stats

It’s interesting to see these numbers. Exactly the same number of ED admits as last year
[Rice University | Undergraduate Admission: Future Owls](http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Freshman_Profile.asp?SnID=560786168)

(I am a little confused because the admit stats page cited above shows 1214 ED apps last year and not the 1048/1.09 = 961 cited by jym…)

This should mean a similar number of RD admits, but I believe the yield was a little higher than expected last year so Rice may cut back a little.

I see your confusion, but my quotation is from what was sent to this years alum interviewers. The numbers don’t make sense if they aren’t a 9% increase, but thats what they said…

One of the confusions in this thread is the difference between the percentage of applicants who applied ED and were admitted and the percentage of matriculating freshmen who were admitted as ED. Those are two different numbers and I don’t know what either of them are, but I believe they’ve both been discussed in this thread as if they’re the same thing.

That would make sense, but are you sure about that, BerkleyMom? On the link to Rice’s website [Rice University | Undergraduate Admission: Future Owls](http://www.futureowls.rice.edu/futureowls/Freshman_Profile.asp?SnID=560786168) they do break out the ED and RD acceptances for the class of 2010. If the ED # includes those who applied ED but were deferred and accepted RD, I would guess the acceptance rate would have been lower than 91%. I would guess the attrition was due to those who declined due to inability to fund the education. But again, its a pure guess.

And this [Ivy League Admission Statistics for Class of 2014 Hernandez College Consulting, Inc. and Ivy League Admission Help](http://www.hernandezcollegeconsulting.com/ivy-league-admissions-statistics/) indicates that last year’s ED applications were less than 900. Who knows.
