Hi, I'm a recent HS graduate and I wasn't able to attend my top choices of schools. This has left me with either attending a lackluster ok school that I have really no desire to attend or a cc. I plan on applying as a transfer to NYU and other various schools next year but I have a dilemma: will it look bad on my transfer application that I attended a cc? Or should I just get over it and chose the dull state college?

If I attend the cc here are some pros

-cheap tuition
-close to home
-will know others attending
-will help me transition into a 4yr college

But on the other hand I'm worried it may show poorly on my transfer applications and hurt my chances. And I'm thinking going with the state college will give me some advantage, though it's farther from home, more expensive and I know nothing or no one attending because I had no plans on going.

Can anyone offer any advice? I'd appreciate any!

It won’t look bad, plenty of cc students go to top schools. The valedictorian that recently graduated from my cc in NY is off to Harvard this fall.

Since, you only want to attend cc for a year, your HS grades and SAT/ACT scores will play a major role in your admissions decisions.

Thanks, if you don’t mind me asking what cc in NY? I’m in NY too.

Your welcome…BMCC.

Which SUNY did you get into?

The state university is in MA not SUNY related. But the community college is on long island.

O ok.

What is the name of the cc? Is it Nassau cc?

Have you taken a look at the articulation agreements yet?

[SCCC - Suffolk County Community College - Academics - Articulation Agreements](Suffolk County Community College - 404 - Page not Found)

Thanks for the link! I heard little about it but there’s nothing with my major.
