Dropped off daughter for her Upper (Junior) first time boarding experience. She was invited to a team pre-season, so arrived to campus a few days before general move-in day. Returned 2 days later for general orientation for all newbies. Here's some observations:

Attending a pre-pre season camp for her sport was a real plus. A coach, with a few other BS coaches, arranged for a 4 day optional skills camp. Around one dozen PA kids attended and that gave her many welcome 'hugs' on her first day

Coach held an open practice and was incredibly inclusive for new kids. Each was assigned a 'veteran' mentor and priorities were clearly given (school work, family events, then team)

Move-in went smoothly and dorm counselors held an information session for parents. Students will have a more in-depth session later

General orientation (similar to revisit overview) held for all newbies, followed by a pep rally for students and refreshments for parents who were encouraged to leave campus by 5:30.

Expected tearful goodbye, but instead, got a 'meeting my new friends for dinner, bye and love you'. Sigh
