New AP Fee

I haven't seen it in the College Board website yet, but I heard from my Econ teacher that starting this year for those of you taking AP Econ (Macro/Micro), AP Gov (US/Comparative) or AP Physics C(Mechanics/Electricity and Magnetism) would have to pay for 2 exams as opposed to 1.

From AP Central:

[quote]
The fee for each AP Exam is $82. The school normally retains $8 of that fee as a rebate to help with administrative costs.

As of the 2005-06 year, students will no longer be able to take the following exam combinations for a single fee:

* Macroeconomics and Microeconomics
* Comparative Government and Politics and United States Government and Politics
* Latin Literature and Latin: Vergil
* Physics C: Mechanics and Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism

All exams must be paid for and ordered separately.

GREAT! ANOTHER WAY FOR COLLEGEBOARD TO RIP US OFF. It seems their whole nonprofit organization is becomign for profit. Look at the prices. outrageous. ANd don't tell me about how they need money to make test/ pay employees/ etc. Just look at the prices and what they charge for.

I hate collegeboard.

I also heard that College board is raising the AP fee to somewhere between $90 to $100 for next year

My school already charges $90. Apparently testing conditions in my school (which is like five years old) are inadequate during the school day, so we have to relocate to a local Church for exams. That means we need to hire buses (hence the extra $8) to drive students there in the morning, back in the late morning, there in the late morning, and back in the afternoon. That also means that everyone who has an afternoon test misses their bus because the school board (we're the #1 public in the nation, super competitive, etc) decided to cut back on transportation in the budget, so they contracted a company that is known to break traffic laws and not show up once in a while.

Ahh $270 sophomore year, $450 junior year, up to $540 senior year... I hate how I have to take at least some AP's in order to remain competitive. After all, I'm not poor, so it's kind of "expected" for me to spend more money. Or at least that's how I feel.

o man, i'm taking gov and physics c this year! worst.

If the cost increasing at this rate....in about 10 years....only the rich kids will be getting college credit.....yay for collegeboard for rising prices when it doesnt need to with all the money they are making yay....

I SERIOUSLY don't understand what the point of that is, particularly for the kids who take Micro and Macro in one year or Comp Govt and US Govt in one year. At my school we do Macro/US Govt, so it doesn't effect me (even though I have friends who studied Micro independently all summer to take the exam) but still, that's ****ing lame.

if the middle class doesnt get screw enough.....here we go again

why don't we just boycott the AP? colleges don't require AP tests, and many just don't care.

after all, there are free bypass exams once you get into college.

Good to know! I was going to self-study micro since it came free with the macro test, but now I won't bother.

A few of my schools require Micro and Macro to get credit... and I am taking Macro and was planning to self study Micro. No point in taking the Macro exam, now.

I seriously hope collegeboard loses money over this.

Lets overtrow collegeboard and make our own AP organization!

i agree .

I agree; it really sucks. The rich families don't care and the low-income ones get the fee waived by either TCB or the school district.

No! That really does suck. I was planning to take the AP Physics C tests through self-study and just pay $82. Now, I have to pay $164.

how can you apply to get a fee waiver?

Oh eff CB!
