new Big East schools

Any one have experience with schools like Boston College or Georgetown? I know athletes verbally commit and cannot sign until February but there is no such thing as a likely letter so if an athlete does not apply early decision, I assume they are just trusting the coach?

Both are D1 schools. Many D1 sports have an early signing period in November.

What about sport that doesn’t have the early signing period?

Yes, Georgetown and BC are the same as Duke, Stanford, Cal and to the best of my knowledge all D1s except the Ivies: you gotta trust the coach and the admissions office’s pre-read. For sports with February signing dates, it can be a bit tense, but at least with soccer I’ve never heard of a player being denied admission after being told he was pre-cleared for admission.

Of course a huge drop in grades or dismissal from high school for poor conduct are potential roadblocks even after the LOI is signed.

Thanks, we will see how this goes. It would be easier to just be dealing with one category of school but we are dealing with Ivy, NESCAC and Big East all at the same time. It should play out rather quickly with ED deadlines soon approaching.

Regardless of the signing date, you will still need to trust the coach and the admission pre-read. The NLI does not guarantee admission, that will still need to come from the admissions department, and even within divisions many of the schools have different notification timelines so you will likely need to “pick one” without all of the firm answers in hand.
