New BusinessWeek rankings

What does Everyone think? Richmod top 25? Better then BU?

I've never even heard of business week.

Why are UC Berkeley and USC ranked so low??!

...well at least they got #1 right.

odd ranking.

I wonder how many of the ranking-obsessed folks at Berkeley, CMU, and Cornell will be transferring to BYU.

These only rank undergrad business school programs -- Anyone know if there are any rankings out yet for 2006 on undergraduate colleges and universities in general?

"I wonder how many of the ranking-obsessed folks at Berkeley, CMU, and Cornell will be transferring to BYU."

Probably none considering they got the avg starting salaries right.

"I've never even heard of business week."

I hope that you're not a business major, then. BW is a somewhat respected publication (unlike US News and World report).

"Anyone know if there are any rankings out yet for 2006 on undergraduate colleges and universities in general?"

Why would businessweek rank nonbusiness schools?

AA, since when is logic used by the ratings-obsessed?

"odd ranking."

i guess you think Berkeley is under-ranked, huh?

this is more reliable than US news ranking, overall. surveying actual students and corporate recruiters is much better than some random business school dean's opinion on a scale of 1-5.

i think Berkeley is a little under-ranked as well.

English major, I've never really followed business.

These rankings suck.

UVA should not be quite so high.

Emory, Notre Dame, BYU should not be in the top 10.

The use of public school In-state prices totally skews some data. For example, UMich is ranked higher than NYU. However, NYU ranks higher in just about every category that they scored. The significant advantage that UMich had was the 10k price tage versus 32k.

These rankings are dead on man....I'm sorry if you are upset with them. I go to UConn business (53rd by the way) and took the survey they issued to the top schools. It took me like 30 minutes to fill out. It was a very good survey. This is the real deal....You won't find a ranking better than this.

Price should be taken into consideration too.

I doubt anyone who is thinking clearly would rank schools like Emory, Notre Dame, and BYU above Berkeley - Hass. It's just..wrong. No way.

Price SHOULD, but it should be equal. Not everyone who goes to an In-State school is instate. Many of the best public business schools have lots of kids from out of state. You can't simply assume / rank a school based that everyone pays the in-state price

I agree Omniscient, those rankings are pretty accurate. I think 5 (Notre Dame, Emory, BYU, Miami and Villanova) programs were ranked too high and 2 (CMU, Cal) were ranked too low. Otherwise, it seems like a comprehensive ranking. BW needs to improve a couple of things:

1) They need to get a corporate poll going. That's probably the most important criteria when evaluating B schools.

2) With the exception of NYU, which smartly and rightly gave the mean SAT score for Stern, most other universities gave the mean SAT score of the entire student body. In some cases, it really hurt the Business program, especially in the case of large state schools. For example, the mean SAT scores at Cal and Michigan is roughly 1340. The mean SAT scores at Ross and Haas is closer to 1460.

3) The facilities and teaching scores are based on the opinions of a handful of students who answered the survey. That's not reliable whatsover.

This said, I think the overall ranking is very accurate and more reliable than the USNWR.

I agree wholeheartedly with Alexandre. Tepper (CMU) and Haas (Berkeley) really got the shaft in this.

Emory/Notre/BYU/Miami/Villa were overrated (especially Emory).

I feel Businessweek was a bit outdated with its handful of students who still hold the vision that CMU is mostly tech by ranking Tepper; stating that it was "getting better in its soft touches" when such changes have already occured and have been documented by other publications. The majority of Tepper seniors last year and this year did not take tech-oriented jobs and still held up the 55k starting avg.
