In the new rule it days that the OOS cap is now at 10%, but auto admissions stop at 75%. Will this make it easier for OOS or harder to get in?

Also, I go to a private HS that is very rigerous and well respected around the state (A good number go to top colleges). The school doesn't rank, but does quartiles. How much of a disadvantage will I be in because UT cares so much about class rank? I'm going into my JR year and got a 28 on the ACT, and I hope to improve that. With a great test score, will UT care less about class rank at a good private HS?

^ They may release a private top 10% rank to schools. Some private schools will do this.

I’m OoS though so that doesn’t work for me. They cap OOS at 10% starting next year,
so how tough will that make it for OOS is my main question.

My son’s OOS public high school did not rank at all, and he got into biomedical engineering, so it’s possible! He got a 1470/2220 on the SAT. He didn’t take the ACT. He also spent a LOT of time writing his essay.

10% seems like a high cap - that’s more than have been admitted the last few years, isn’t it?

I’m not sure if this answers your question but UT has a limit on the top ten percent rule. Now, in order for Texas students to be auto admits you have to be in the Top 8%. As for OOS, it totally depends.

I would focus on your GPA/class rank if possible or have solid SATs (2100+) and or stellar ECs. Geography also plays a role for OOS. If you live in Barrow, Alaska you might have a better chance over someone from Oklahoma.
