NEW! College Prep Scholarship - 2010

[The page for them has not been updated yet though…when you click them you get a broken link :(]

Has anyone started to get offers for college visits yet?

I’m going to be a group leader at the Yale Conference next weekend. Look out for me!

I got an invite from Williams to apply to their Windows on Williams program, which is in October. All expense paid visit.

no invitations yet, but ive gotten a letter from penn with a financial aid DVD and a pamphlet asking me to make them “my ivy.” I also recieved an email from Yale expressing interest. Has anyone else gotten any of these or something similar?

@Waggish: Awesome! I was hoping I wasn’t the only one. Are you planning on going?

And I’ve received the e-mail from Yale, but no letter with a DVD from Penn. Just the e-mail and the pamphlet.

I got the invite from Williams, the email from Yale, and the DVD from Penn. No college visit offers though.
I don’t think I’ll apply for the Williams overnight; the general vibe I get from Williams is very anti-minority. I may apply, though, if some of you guys are. I wanna meet yall amazing ppl :)

Applicannot: j/w, why are you attending the Yale conference if you’re going to Stanford?

I’ve received an invite from Amherst [through snail mail], an “interest” E-mail from Yale, and an application for the “Windows on Williams”! I am so excited :)

^^I believe she is going to tell you about Questbridge because she was matched last year to Stanford.

Anyway, I applied to this scholarship but never got it - congrats everyone and good luck with your college admissions!

I’ve heard the anti-minority thing about Williams, though I’m assuming they’re a part of QuestBridge to fix that problem. On another note, all I know about Williams I’ve learned through a student who matched to the school last year, and he identifies with pretty much every minority I know.

I’m actually not strongly considering Williams. But if its all-expense paid, it couldn’t really hurt, right? Maybe it’ll be a pleasant surprise. :)

I couldn’t fly to Stanford - a $400 plane ticket for a weekend? Are you nuts?

Stanford and Yale conferences have the SAME program, they are just in different locations for convenience. The locations are different but the idea is that the same information is being delivered.

Just so you know, here are some other schools that offer all-expenses paid or diversity visits:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/770660-fall-diversity-visit-programs-compilation.html?highlight=fall+visit+programs

I received an email from Yale, Penn, and Vassar so far as well.

@danimarie
I’m going to apply to WoW. Like you said, it’s free, so why not?

I’m also applying to Discover Swarthmore and Wesleyan’s Travel Assistance Program.

@applicanot: Wow. I didn’t know we had that many options. How updated is the thread though? All the links seem to lead to the 2009 program.

@Waggish: TAP’s another program I’m applying for, too. Nothing from Swarthmore though.

As a general question, does anyone know when these offers are going to stop being made through QuestBridge? Just so I know when I can start tentatively choosing which dates I’d like to attend for each and turn in the applications as soon as possible.

Obviously all threads lead to the 2009 program, since it’s a list for 2009 and the 2010 programs are not going to be in full bloom for at least a few months. But these events are usually recurring.

I received an invitation from Williams, for a campus visit. I will be soon applying to see their campus! I also received an invitation from Wesleyan University, and will probably apply there as well! Does anyone know if they consider your “College Prep scholar” status in the admissions process?

I’d love to hear your impressions of the Yale conference.

when do you think campus visits for the ivy leagues will be announced? Later in summer?

Hi Courteau91 (: I am a rising junior seeking to apply for both the Prep and Match in the comming two years of high school. I went and checked out the QB website to apply for the Prep and it said the application was closed. Do you know when the Prep applications will open? I would also appreciate some advice and tips on the application process. It’s really important to me that I give my best shot at the Prep and Match.
Also, is there an essay for the prep application? How long did it take you to fill out? What do you think captivated the jury in your application? (you don’t have to answer this one if it’s like personal.)

Sorry I’m flooding you with so many questions… THANKS!

The app opens sometime in February, if I remember correctly. And it’s due late March.
