NEW! College Prep Scholarship - 2010

So who is going to the Yale conference?

QB wrote back:

"Dear Luis,

Consideration for the Quest for Excellence Awards is in progress. You will be contacted within a few weeks if you are being considered for a Quest for Excellence Award.

Kind regards,
The QuestBridge Team"

I think I’m going… if everything works out.

I’m going to Stanford, for sure.

Anyone else?

My D (and I) are going to Stanford, too.

is quest for excellence the summer camp thing?

I’m probably going to Yale.

I was thinking the same thing with the conference… I cant really go if the money isnt there. Im going to wait on TASP decisions before i decide here.

Good Job! I didn’t get into TASP’s final round and was kind of depressed, but Questbridge helped me regain my confidence :)

im going to stanford! :)

I think I’m going to Stanford but it depends on whether or not I get the travel grant and how much it is… damn how lame it is that after winning it, you can’t even get it…and because of money…
Also, if I RSPV saying I will go, but then bail out, do you think they will be biased against me in the College Match Scholarship or am I being overly paranoid here?

Also, just wondering, can the people that applied post their personal letter that had to do with our change in personality or overcoming an obstacle? I just want to know the difference from a college prep conference winner and then a summer program winner…

I got into TASP so someone can take my spot at the Stanford Conference. Ill hop on questbridge for college match.

Congratulations, Abyssion! TASP sounds like such an amazing experience.

For anyone who may be booking motels stays for one of the conferences:
If you’ve found a motel at which you want to stay, prior to making reservations be sure to search its site thoroughly to see if there are any special discounts for which you may qualify. Sometimes you can find specials, especially if you’re staying more than one night.

^ true… I was looking through some of the websites for motels and hotels nearby… looking for some good deals… if you find any good deals, message me. I would appreciate it

I can’t afford to spend much money… and I don’t think the travel grant will be able to cover much since I’m flying from more than 800 miles away… plane cost and motel costs are no joke. :)

For those who’re planning to attend the conference: Did you receive a confirmation after submitting the RSVP form? It seems like we can submit the form as many times as we want? If I’m worried about some technical issues, it it OK to submit it again just in case?

Nope, no confirmation of any kind.

Yeah, no confirmation here either.

Has anyone looked on the QB partner schools pages? The schools require a fair amount of work-study and summer earnings from QB matched students. Do all private colleges expect that of their students on financial aid?

^^^^^^^^^^
Yes, from what I know all (or almost all) require work study and summer contributions, although those vary quite a bit. If your child is in one of the groups that qualify for Gates Scholars and receives that, Gates pays the students work study to them each semester.

I think the summer earnings and term-time job expectations are pretty typical. Most schools allow students to use outside scholarships to fulfill those requirements. Check the financial aid section of the schools’ websites to find their specific policy.
