New college ranking

America's Best Colleges - Forbes.com

Some surprises in here, but it's aimed at measuring the quality of undergraduate education, not the research etc activity of the school. UNC Chapel Hill puts in a creditable performance, for a big research school.

Got to love a listing that doesn't 'refine' their methodology until HYP are in the top 5!

I was nodding with the top 20, but whathefox! in what universe is Rhodes better than Davidson? That list is just plain strange. Some of it is spot on, but other parts are just bizarre.

Come on there are enough threads on here about the Forbes rantings - look them up - or just search under bogus…

:)

Like USNWR…anything to sell magazines…methodology be damned…;)

Agreed they are a bit odd-looking in places, but it seems roughly right to me if you remember it’s measuring quality of undergrad teaching combined with success of graduates.

It seems right to me that LAC and Princeton do so well on such a ranking, and other places (which often focus on grad/medical students) do less well.

So I’m not quite so disbelieving of it as some people!

Wow, 62? That is weak.

we ranked higher than cornell, michigan, and usc, so it’s not that weak

I guess I am just used to UNC being a bit higher up. I find Forbes rankings kind of iffy anyway.

Also, according to the 2011 US News rankings, UNC is 30. Wasn’t UNC ranked higher in previous years, or is my memory foggy?

UNC was 28 last year in USNWR, but 30 is still pretty darned good for a public university.

the methodology change in USNWR sunk us a little. those rankings are notoriously biased against publics in recent years, though, so i would take it with a grain of salt in regards to all public schools

Kept the same ranking in national public universities …this hasn’t changed in at least 8 years.
