New College Search Tool at CC

One of my long time frustrations has been that the CC's College Search section of our WWW site lacked something one might expect: a college search tool.

We now have one of the first visible benefits of our Hobsons alliance. Hobsons techies created a widget that we were able to plug into our page and deliver much of the functionality of their [CollegeView site:

College</a> Search](<a href="http://www.collegeview.com/%5DCollegeView%5B/url">http://www.collegeview.com/) home page at CC

This search tool is a bit simple, but at least one can access detailed stats and contact info for every US college, from community colleges to Ivies. At this point, it's probably best for geographic searches - it doesn't take into account things like size preferences, urban vs. rural, etc.

We already working on a much more robust tool.

Looks really nice

Excellent. Thanks.

Very nice looking and navigable. I can't wait for you guys to expand it. Can you please put the list of majors a school offers in some sort of order (alphabetical or categorical)?

Good suggestion, Lumine. Thanks.

The major metropolitan area search function is a little off. For instance, for San Diego it returns the College of the Redwoods, a community college nearly a 1,000 miles away and Dominican University of California, 700 miles away!

Roger, as some of the Parents of the Class of 2010 (in the parents forum) were discussing, we'd like a College Fairy to come to our homes with appropriate college lists and completed applications. We suggested Curmudgeon in a tutu with a wand. Perhaps riding goats. Can you help us with that?

Great tool, thanks!!

Thanks so much for the Search function! Is the information and format the same as those used on Naviance/Family Connection? They look identical, but I wasn't sure.

Probably they are similar, Baelor, as Naviance is part of the bigger family.

Thanks for identifying the geographic oddities, Carolyn. What with global warming and all, San Diego does seem a bit southerly for redwoods... :) We'll check and see if it's merely a data entry issue or something in the algo.

I'm the wrong person to ask. Better check with Curmudgeon first on that. If he's ok with the tutu and wand, we'll try to find a suitable goat. :)

Please also include a choice of scholarships available through the schools...I envision Curmudgeon holding up a hand of cards as in "Go Fish".

Since the College View data is used on Naviance, I wonder if, in the future, Naviance will have a link to CC.

Our techies read your comment, and have now fixed this. Majors offered by a college are listed alphabetically. Thanks for the feedback!
