Hi guys,
I was watching the new ASC videos (the link to which is posted on in this forum), and was reminded of the new distribution requirements that are going into effect in the next few years; my tour guide last year also alluded to them. I love the system they used to have, because I think it gives you a lot of flexibility, but I don't know really anything about the new requirements and am wondering if anyone can tell me about the changes Yale is making?
Thanks!

I think that the new ones will be MORE flexible than the ones they have now.

Yea the new ones will make it easier for you to fulfill them.

I love that in Yale's distribution requirements, Art, Music, and History are in the same group. Then I'd just take the art and music classes. God, if I got into Yale, no more history for the rest of my life!

What's the requirement for hard math/sciences?

no strict requirements just somethings that has math in it. my tour guide told me about how he took a aids study course which included stats on aids which filled his requirement

About distribution requirements:

From the Alumni Schools Committee Newsletter Spring 2004 (www.yale.edu/asc/newsletter/spring_2004.pdf):

New Distribution Requirements:

Following a sixteen month fullscale study on Yale College education, the faculty has voted to implement new distribution requirements for the Bachelors Degree. Starting with the Class of 2009, students must take:

no fewer than two courses in the Humanities and Arts

no fewer than two courses in the Social Sciences

no fewer than two courses in the Natural Sciences

two courses in any department that give attention to the development of writing skills

two courses in any field that strengthen skills in quantitative reasoning and analysis

In addition, students must attain competence in a foreign language at the intermediate level, or, if they have already reached it, build their skills further.

Good, they still group Humanities and Arts together.
