More newbies on campus :)

will allow MIT to increase undergraduate enrollment by about 100 students per year

Music to my ears.

“Everyone here wants to increase the class size,” said Dean for Admissions Marilee Jones, with many suggesting an increase of 100.

And she is right.

...but wait, this doesn't apply to '10, does it? -_-

...and I hate to be the dour old matron that I clearly am, but if yield keeps rising, increasing the class size by 10% won't really result in all that many more people actually being admitted.

If they're just starting to discuss details of this project, the dorm shift likely wouldn't happen for at least a couple more years at the earliest, and as the article also says, East Campus is (over)ripe for gutting/renovation (which would be an ... "interesting" project...), meaning EC residents might be relocated during the renovation, thereby pushing back any increase in class size during that project.

Lots of possible different scenarios there....

Mootmom, I will tell you that if they renovate (and relocate) East Campus before the end of 2008 they will have one mad student on their hands! I can't even think what his reaction would be. I tried to ask him about the possibility over Christmas but he said he was in denial and wouldn't talk about it.

Part of what he likes about EC is that no one much cares what you do with your room, the halls, etc., and in a new (or renovated) dorm there would be way too many restrictions.

over30, in no way am I eager to hear that EC would be renovated! (And it'd have to wait until a year after your "deadline" or there'd be a riot in my family, too.) I have to admit, I love EC the way it is. It could use some modern conveniences that it doesn't have (carrying all your stuff up 4 flights of stairs isn't the most fun thing ever), but it's Home to those who know and love it, and it's hard to imagine it any other way.

^ oh, yield. I'd forgotten ;)

Regarding EC, I could stand to lose the asbestos in my floorboards but other than that, STAY THE **** AWAY!

Not to mention the cockroaches and ants!

OOPS WAS I SUPPOSED TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER MAY 1ST TO SAY THAT

... and the WILD HAIRS!!

yeah. all those can go.

Why does East Campus not have to bother?

Ask the God.

"Don't be panic," says the God. And that's a fact.
