New era in College Prestige

FOR ALL THOSE COLUMBIA JUNKIES OUT THERE, I HAVE COME UP WITH NEW TERM FOR NAMING THE BEST OF THE BEST IN THE COUNTRY BASED ON US NEWS WEEK WHICH WE ALL HAIL AS THE HOLY GRAIL OF LIFE
(please don't kill me)

PHYSICS

P:Princeton
H:Harvard
Y:Yale
S:Stanford
I:Institutes of Technology (CIT, MIT)
C: Columbia
s

Genius. I'm using that from now on.

I gotta say I had low expectations for this thread when I saw the CAPS...
That's pretty good though.

Now the real question: what's the last S stand for? We should have a vote.

sanjaya .

Swarthmore =)

if you bump Stanford then you can make room for both.

hahaha sanjaya is such a toolbox.

truazn - that's what I was thinkin.

"S" = Select Small liberal-arts colleges (Swarthmore, Carleton, Bowdoin, Amherst, Wellesley, Pomona ...?) -- six of them.

The use of the terminal "S" to stand for six small LACs has two desirable effects, at minimum: First, it creates lovely numerical symmetry with the six listed Universities. Second, it allows those who love to debate this sort of ranking PLENTY of opportunity to debate, within the LAC category.

Nice acronym, no matter what!

Perfect. Now I'll suggest putting Wesleyan into that category as it is one of the "little three" ivies (Williams, Amherst, Wesleyan) and thus correlates well with HYP. Perhaps we should remove Bowdoin or Carleton. :D

The last S can be part of Penn's old name

The University of the State of Pennsylvania.

I guess that could have worked a few hundred years ago...

You can't put the LAC's in their without putting Duke, dart, penn, brown, Uchicago, etc...

because????

I like the s for six idea. your idea won't work with the acronym.

PSYCH..if you left out the institutes? That'd be lame though.

Columbias acceptance rate was about half that of Duke, Dartmouth, Penn, Brown ect. Does anyone think that this will result in Columbias rise in the rankings next year? Columbias acceptance rate was second only to Yale

Penn is better. People only want to go to new york so unqualified students apply to columbia making the acceptance rate lower. And your yield sucks because people don't really want to go to columbia. (...you guys started it by putting down penn, if you want to go by rankings penn is ranked higher than columbia, and has a higher yield, so ha.)

True, unlike mit and caltech, many of the ivies have such low admit rates becasue their applicant pools arent really self-selective. Youll have kids applying for the hell of it because the school might have something like nyc in columbias case. Doesnt mean they arent hard to get into though ;)

this thread is making me dumber.

agreed. stop trying to put penn down people it's annoying and we will become belligerent, we penn students never give way. How bout a truce columbians
