New Faculty for USC Thornton School of Music

<p>The Thornton School of Music is celebrating 128 years this fall. New faculty has been announced. </p>

<p>Ambrose Akinmusire, alumnus of USC, has joined the jazz faculty. He has won the 2012 DownBeat Critic's Poll Award for trumpet. He was the winner of the Thelonius Monk International Jazz Competition and the Caruso International Jazz Solo Competiton. </p>

<p>Violinist Tien-Hsin Cindy Wu will join the strings faculty. She was featured by the National Symphony of Taiwan and has toured both in Europe and the U.S. Ms Wu received the Milka Violin Artist Fellowship as well as the Gold Medal at the Stulberg International String Competition. Chair of the Strings Department at Thornton is Midori Goto.</p>

<p>Glenn Dicterow, Concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, will return to SC in 2013. He studied with the great Jascha Heifetz who was on the faculty when Dicterow lived in Los Angeles. He will hold the Robert Mann Chair in Strings. Also coming from New York is Karen Dreyfus who has been on the faculty of the Manhattan School of Music. Her instrument is the viola.</p>
