New: Fall 2008 Official Acceptances/rejections

i think if you want a legitimate chance at good funding within the top schools, its a requisite to apply as a MS/PhD and have the research to back it up. Civil seems to be unique as I had to personally interview for all funding either through phone or in person. They wanted to make sure you do in fact have the motivation to complete a PhD and that you really understood the research described in the personal statement. I'm in the same boat regarding Stanford. I have a bevy of other places I would rather choose over Stanford right now if I don't get funding from them. Paying full price for Stanford and expensive living costs in the bay area are not worth it.

Don't think I got into Georgetown, since it seems most people who got in were already accepted. Had my sights set on Yale as one of my top programs, but didn't even get waitlisted. Nonetheless, I'm very, very happy! Deciding between SAIS, SIPA, and Fletcher...any advice welcome...

Congratulations decided! You have a lot of great options. Don't be so sure about Georgetown, there could be many reasons why you have not heard back yet. I am in a similar situation with Columbia SIPA. It seems like everyone has heard back but me. Anyway, here is where I stand so far:

Tufts Fletcher: Accepted to MALD program; $12k in scholarships over two years

Georgetown SFS: Accepted to MSFS program; no scholarship

SAIS: Accepted to the MA program at the DC campus; waiting on scholarship info

Columbia SIPA: Still waiting

Harvard KSG: Still waiting

Money is definitely a factor, but I don't know if the $12k over two years is enough to give Fletcher any edge over the others. I worked pretty hard on scholarship applications for SAIS, so I am hoping I might get something from them.

hi all,

i just heard back from the schools i applied to for MPP/MPA programs.

accepted to:
Harvard Kennedy School
UC Berkeley Goldman School
NYU Wagner School

still waiting to hear on fellowship offers though.

good luck to everyone!

Can any1 give me an honest opinion on Georgiatech? I've been accepted there for an MS under the ECE department for the Fall of 2008.
How good is the institute?does it have a decent reputation?
Also, what are the recruitment chances for M.S. Graduates??

PLEASE RESPOND TO MY QUERIES!!!!PLEASE!!!!!!

[/quote]

To preface my post: My name implies I am clearly biased since I will be attending there this fall for MS ECE as well, but I can be impartial.

Georgia Tech is a well-known university that prides itself on its ability to make you look more attractive professionally; This is very evident from their website. As far as reputation goes, U.S. News & World Report - which essentially ranks reputation over any other metric - puts them #7 in ECE and like #4 in engineering as a whole. If you're interested in academia, I'm not sure they churn out too many professor types, but they did spend half a billion in research last year. I don't have any direct evidence for how easy it is to get a job, but the school enjoys the highest rate of alumni contributions in the nation, so that tells me their graduates make decent money!

Honestly, the question of should you attend boils down to where else you got accepted. As a side note, Atlanta is a nice town.

thanx a lot gthopeful.....i really appreciate your response.......well i dont intend to get a phd once I finish my M.S..I plan on working in the industry. As of now, I have got accepted for the MS programs at Georgiatech and Purdue......im still waiting on my applications for UIUC and my M.Eng application at Cornell.

My thinking right now is that, if i get accepted in to cornell for the M.Eng program, I am more inclined to join there as Cornell is an Ivy League school and the M.Eng prog is designed specifically for people who intend on working in the industry.....

Any idea bout how the M.Eng prog in Cornell is?Can any1 give any suggestions?

Thanx a lot ....i really appreciate it....

All applications are to international affairs programs.

Me: Major: Poli Sci Minor: Econ, (coursework was highly centered on int'l affairs) GPA=3.4, GRE=640Q/670V/5.5AWR.
1.5 years working in international trade policy in DC.
Studying Arabic in Syria since 6/07 - Present (8/08 expected)

Georgetown Master's Foreign Service: waiting (unlikely)
Johns Hopkins SAIS: Accepted to Bologna
Tufts Fletcher: waiting (hoping)
Columbia SIPA: waiting (no idea)
George Washington Elliott: Accepted

I noticed there was some discussion about when Georgetown will send out notices. Last year they sent everything out on April 1. I believe that is the case with this year as well.

I got an email from Fletcher. They sent decisions out on Friday should post decisions online on Monday.

UVA - Ph.D - Aerospace - Accepted
UMD - Ph.D - Aerospace - Accepted
UCSD - Ph.D - Aerospace - Accepted
Cornell - MS - Aerospace - Accepted
Stanford - MS - Aerospace - Accepted
MIT - Ph.D - Aerospace - Rejected
CalTech - Ph.D. - Aerospace - Waiting

NSF - Waiting (fingers crossed!)
NDSEG - Waiting

Thanks for creating this thread. Has anyone heard from CalTech? Given it's now mid-March, I expect I've been rejected-- oh well. Also, there's probably another thread for this topic, but I thought I'd share the interesting acceptance letter I received (via e-mail) from Cornell. Paraphrasing (rather liberally) it said, "We regret to inform you that you have been accepted in our Masters of Engineering program." I was tickled.

Hi astrojams1
Can you tell what the general reputation is of the M.Eng program at cornell.....I have also applied for M.Eng under the ECE for the fall of 2008 and am still waiting for their response.........are u even considering going to cornell since you;ve been admitted to stanford?

I expect not. I'm visiting the Stanford campus early April and will probably accept my offer of admissions soon afterwards. Go Cardinal... Stanford desperately needs a mascot.
