Hey to all!!

So excited/nervous to be attending Cal in the Fall, but anyways I have a quick lil question for you guys-

And that would be: Which do you think is the better option? living on campus or off campus? I see pros/cons for both.

In my case, I'm trying to save money and by not spending an extra 4, 000 a year living on campus, I'd save like 8, 000 overall. But, I realize you have to pay for food and such if you live off campus which could come out to be 4, 000 dollars by the end of an entire year? Hmm.

Anyways, are the co-ops sort of like a happy medium between on/off campus living? Any recommendations? Thanks :)

^
I second that, haha.

that sucks sooo bad. BUT at the same time thanks for the replies haha

My suggestion is to live in the dorms even if they are expensive. You will meet a lot of people there. While it’s true that you can meet a lot of people living in a co-op, there will not as many freshmen in your similar position. In the dorms, almost everyone is new and eager to find new friends. While I don’t have personal experience with the co-ops, I would imagine that more people would have established friend networks, so you would have to work harder to make close friends.

In addition, I felt that the dorms were a good middle step between living with my parents and living on my own. In the dorms, people will still cook for you (dining hall) and they will still clean the common areas for you. So you aren’t totally responsible for everything. But you are still away from home and need to take care of keeping your room clean, getting along with roommates, doing laundry, etc.

I don’t think you’ll go wrong either way, but I think that the dorms are a better choice for the average incoming freshman.

Sorry I forgot to mention that I’m a transfer And yes I used to live in dorms and looove doing that! But, I also wanna save $$. What to do haha
