[New Forum Policy] No "Chances" Threads

There is clearly a designated forum for these types of threads.

I don't like reading them, you don't like reading them, NOTHING GOOD WILL COME OUT OF POSTING A CHANCES THREAD.

If you are contemplating making one of these threads, let me give you an answer. I can read minds, I know all your stats. Trust me, it will save you time.

Your chances are zero percent if you do not apply. Your stats are in the range of everyone else that sent their application in. You are suffering from low confidence. I am a 17 year old just like you and I have no idea about your chances let alone mine. Good luck!

Please do not reply to any of these threads, or just link them to this thread.
Everyone agree?

Love, Matt

while you personally might no like reading them, it does not mean that they should be banned, there are a lot of people willing to talk to these applicants and make recommendations based on the stats that are presented, some of these people are more experienced that us 17 year olds, everyone understands that they mean almost nothing, but if it gives some people a boost of confidence i dont see why they hurt

(There is a chances FORUM with people ready and willing to give boosts of confidence and recommendations)

Really a chances forum? I guess i must have missed it(sorry for the sarcasm)

But my major point is if you dont like them dont read them, many of us are more familiar with princeton than those that browse the chances thread, and thus it is better for prospective students to ask about princeton here, there are many people willing to help, and just because you dont want to doesnt make it right to ban all such threads

Bikerman262's right, you have no right to ban all "chances" threads. Besides, as a junior, i can tell you that chances threads are extremely helpful. It might just be a confidence booster for seniors, but for us juniors, chances threads give us a better idea of our strengths and weaknesses. Besides, in the chances thread, your post disapears almost instantly, and any info you get isnt as specialized as you would want. People are readily willing to help check essays, i think that chances threads should be the same.

Matt630 - thanks man, somebody who is making sense on this forum. I'm sick and tired of people coming on here to boost their egos and search for praise from strangers. Honestly, if you want to know your chances, go back and read one of the many stats lists from previous years or post in the chances forum. I'm sick of this S**t.

I love the fact that we're equally desperate high schoolars and possible competition but people STILL beg for our input.

i have to agree with matt. there is a "chance" forum and all chance threads should be put there, then again, i guess some people want "specific" posters to read their stats and critique them. but all those chance threads do end up getting annoying when i know 99.9% of the people who post their stats know that they have equal chance of admissions as anyone else.

My favorite part is when you thought you could impose your own forum rules.

Gopsy I agree....chances threads may be annoying to you, but the only way to get people to actually stop making them is to pm a moderator to get an actual change in forum rules.

I'm iffy about them. I think some of them do have merit (especially ones that ask others to seperate schools into reaches/matches/safeties to see if you are over- or under-rating your chances so you can make your list more well-rounded. However, people who fish for compliments are annoying.
