Moderators, thank you for deleting that “sticky” suggestion thread from the Christian Colleges forum.
I think we should have a forum for career colleges.
Since it got lost in the Christian college discussion, what happened to the Dance Majors forum?
“Christian colleges” doesn’t have some special meaning in higher education. The term is EXCEEDINGLY offensive to those of us who are Christians but who are NOT Evangelical Protestants. Evangelical Protestants don’t just use the term “Christian” to mean only those who are Evangelical Protestants when talking about colleges; they use it that way all the time.
I am Catholic. I have been told more times than I can count that I am not “Christian” by Evangelical Protestants. That is NOT true of ALL Evangelical Protestants, and I am not claiming it is. But for those of us who are believers in Our Lord but are NOT Protestants, using Christian as a synonym for Evangelical Protestants is bigotry at its worst.
I wandered in and answered a post–and I was perfectly civil. But, this is really offensive and I do hope the moderators will change the title.
Please rename the forum.
Nothing really to add, just ditto. Having a forum called “Christian colleges” only for evangelical protestants strikes me as inappropriate - not only because people are saying that Catholics and LDS are not Christian, but also because non-Christian religions should be represented as well. I really think a “Religious Colleges” forum would be more appropriate.
I still have not yet seen the Mods give a valid reason as to why it would be so bad to change the name to religious colleges. It would avoid discussions such as these, and it would avoid any cat-fighting between the various Christian religions as to what is and is not a Christian.
Plus, with Religious Colleges, people looking for more obscure religious colleges would be less likely to get lost in the main College Selection forum.
I don’t see what the big deal is of Christian vs. Religious Colleges.
