New freshman dorm

Does anyone know if the new dorm is still on track to open in the fall of 2013? There doesn't seem to be any news on it at all. Are they offering it for a housing option yet for applicants who have been admitted and paid their deposit?

They announced it will be named after the Chancellor and will open in fall 2013.

[Pitt surprises chancellor Nordenberg with scholarship fund, building in his name - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette](http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/news/education/pitt-surprises-chancellor-nordenberg-with-scholarship-fund-building-in-his-name-659321/)

Do those who apply for freshman housing first have the option between the towers and the new dorm?

Options:

UHC Housing: Sutherland
Engineering Housing: Forbes Hall
Girls-Only Housing: Holland Hall
Singles-Only Housing: Tower C, some Lothrop rooms
Other: Tower A, Tower B, Lothrop, Nordy Dorm

is it common for kids to be put where they don’t want? not specific dorms but like kids wanting a roommate getting stuck in a single, wanting traditional dorm stuck in a suite, ect?

I’m not sure how common, but just be aware that obviously not everyone can get their first choice pick. Generally, the LLCs (Forbes, Sutherland) are filled with people who wanted to be there. Holland Hall is 1/3 of the freshman housing (not including the new nordy dorm) so girls have a 1/3 chance of being in there EVEN IF THEY DIDN’T ASK FOR IT. I’ve heard of some people being placed in singles in Lothrop even though they wanted a towers double. I think the new Nordy dorm will eliminate many problems like this.

I guess the moral is if you really wanna go to Pitt, apply early and send in your deposit and housing right away. The sooner you send it, the better chance you have of getting what you want.
