Are freshman required to show up on the the day the doorms are open (Aug. 18th)? I know that the Convocation is Aug 19th, by my son doesn't want to show up till Aug 22nd. Will that be a problem?

No, I do not believe they have to show up for the nine days of Seminole Sensation Week that occurs before classes begin. There are many fun activities planned with free concerts and events and socializing.
Here is the link to the 2006 events: http://ssweek.fsu.edu/

Thanks Cybermom, I'll be sure to show him the link, I think it'll help to change his mind.

yeah, i didnt go to convocation, and i heard from the people that did go that its pretty boring lol

We attended Convocation with our younger daughter and thought it wonderful - it was a great welcome to the university for the freshmen. We wish we'd had such a greeting back in the 1970s.

I didn't go to Convocation either and I moved in to my dorm on the first day... I don't think many people go to it either.
