New good ACT =]. OKish GPA lol. Chances?

So I'm a white, female from Michigan.
My first semester of junior year I was diagnosed with moderate depression and severe anxiety and my grades plummeted.

Frosh year: 3.75. (Hardest classes I could take, transfer student so they wouldn't give me honors classes.)
Soph year: 3.83. (Same, but took honors math and junior social studies.)
Junior year: 3.1 UW, 3.6 W. (3 AP classes- World Hist, Calc AB, Eng. 2 Honors.)

Really, my only problem was Calc AB- D+/C-. Once I got behind because of my illnesses (the depression manifested as physical illnesses landing me in the hospital once), it was REALLY difficult to come back out. The rest are all As/Bs. I am retaking Calc 1 at a local CC and have a B+.

ACT: 33 (E-29, M-34, R-33, S-34).
SAT: Not so good... 1340/1930. (CR-630, M-710, W-590).
-Waiting on SAT 2 scores.
APs: (All self-study)- Bio-3, Psych-4, Gov-4.
(Took 5 this year, 2 were self-study.)

Significant ECs:
-Help found an all-girls basketball league in a poor Detroit neighborhood.
-Coached basketball for league above for 3 years.
-Coached softball and volleyball for 2.
-Help found an Animal Rights club at school. President Senior year.
-NHS (11-12).
-Well over 500 hours of community service.
-Over 200 hours of tech on school plays.
-Thespian.
-Awareness and Activism.
-Have played Volleyball, Basketball, Softball, and Swimming for 13 years.

My passion is working with disadvantaged children. I came from a disadvantaged background and want to give other kids the same opportunity to overcome it that I had. This is probably what my essays will be about.

Anyways: I want to go into history and then onto law.

Michigan State University
University of Michigan Ann Arbor.
Albion
Beloit
Knox
Kenyon
Georgetown
Lafayette
Barnard
Brown [Dream, but... not likely lol.]

Any others that would be good for me please add =].

If you explain the depression thing well, then I would say
Michigan State University-safety/match
University of Michigan Ann Arbor- match

My counselor said she would explain it. It was something out of my control, but I used it for good. I now work at a teen crisis center to help others like myself.

Bump... only one promise =]. Any other suggestions for colleges would be great =].

Definitely look into the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

in everywhere except Brown and Gtown

^^ Thanks, but why would I be in at Barnard? From what I hear, they are really GPA numbers-driven. Please correct me if I am wrong, because I do really like Barnard as well. Their ancient studies program keeps drawing me back =] lol.

Hmm pretty good chances everywhere except Brown and G'town those are reaches..

Also at Brown and Gtown they will see your SAT 2's (assuming you take 3 to fill G'towns requirement) and that means that they will see your SAT grade as well which as you said is not so good.

Romanigypsyeyes, I like you and your posts: always the sarcastic voice of reason in High School Life. XP

You seem very intelligent and driven (many self-studies, etc), and it's refreshing to see you reaching out to disadvantaged kids for reasons other than resume padding (and that shows!) Actually, all of your ECs show interest and passion.

I don't know enough to confidently chance anyone, but I think that everything looks fantastic; Brown is really the only one I'd be worried about. (And omg Brown is my top choice too! Hope we're both class of '13. XD) Georgetown could go either way, too, I guess; I don't know how stats-obsessed they are.

^^ Why thank you =]. I don't think they're so much sarcastic-driven as it is truth-driven. It kills me when people whine and mope about where they come from rather than getting up and doing something about it. And I have other clubs and stuff, just none that I'm really passionate enough about to put on here, lol.

Georgetown, I don't think I'm even going to apply to just because I don't think I'd have the money even with financial aid. Brown, my Goddess, I'd love to go there. Ancient Egypt, Egyptology is... what keeps me going =]. No seriously. (Yes, I know "techincally" it's now with another program... but I'm ok with that.) Haha.

Like I said, I hope colleges can see past my GPA. Rawr!!

Oh and I have two SAT II's. Bio M-640 and Math II-650. I retook Math II, and took World History and Literature. Just waiting on those scores.

Is there no way to send the SAT II's with out the SATs? Would they look at the fact that my ACT is significantly better than my SAT, or no? I'm honestly not sure how that works because before my ACT and SAT were almost dead similar before the jump from a 29 to a 33.

Don't worry, even if they "see" the lower SAT, they will only "consider" the much-better ACT. It's all good.

Scores are up now! How did you do?

^^ Ehh... Lol.
I had strep when I took it and passed out during the first two...
So
Literature: 480 (tear)
World History: 600
Math 2: 800!!! lol.

Yeah... I don't know if I should send them or not lol.
