Yale sounds wonderful to me. I love everything about the school. But...is New Haven really that great of a town? What did those of you who had visited think? The campus is nice, right? Any description is appreciated!

The campus is just gorgeous...not gorges like Cornell though...hehehe. The town isn't too pretty though if you go too far outside the Yale vicinity. Um...there's some bars and some dance clubs, some ice cream shops, cafes, and lots of ethnic (thai, japanese, etc.) restaurants. Hope that helps

Most people have told me, including my interviewer, that Yale is kind of like an ivory tower, removed from New Haven's problems. However, like all places, there are the nice parts and the not so nice parts.

New Haven does get a bit claustrophobic, especially if you don't have any access to a car. While there is more than enough to entertain you throughout the year, this suburban kid from the sprawling metropolis of Phoenix, AZ has had trouble getting used to the drastically smaller space he has to roam around in.

Go Arizona!!! I love the Valley!

One way to describe it: New Haven is an oasis surrounded with crap. Yale's in the oasis.

Okay, I LOVE New Haven and you're all wrong. If you know how to get out into the city, there's lots of fun stuff to do. It does help a lot to have access to a car, but if you have feet you can walk lots of places. Anyone who goes to yale and doesn't get out into the city is just... inept and missing out. Yalies don't get the benefit of being in the city when there aren't... Yalies there, but it has a completely different, relaxed feel.
Whoa, sorry, that was an exhausted rant. If you're willing to pick up a copy of the Advocate and actually figure out what's going on, there's lots to do and it's a great town. NYC is also very close by train, which I love.

plus, theres an IKEA nearby. cheap dorm furniture :).

LOL Jill, you hear that? An IKEA! happy thoughts :)

I personally love New Haven. Sure, there are some rough parts, but there are rough parts in ANY city. It's not like New Haven is worse than any other normal city. In fact, the characteristics that are unique to New Haven make it my favorite place to visit (and hopefully live at for the next 4 years!). And, yes, IKEA is a Godsend.

Love IKEA.

What is IKEA? Exuse my ignorance:)

IKEA is a Swedish furniture store with really inexpensive items.

Oh, I HAVE been there! I thought I had...we actually have something from there. Haha...just in case anyone wanted to know lol. Yea...alot of stuff that looks expensive but isn't. I didn't know that was a chain.

I have a wooden artist's mannequin from IKEA. Yeah, that was totally random.
