I've seen so many with like 4.0+ GPAs and 2300-odd SATs, and the worst part is that their ECs are so outstanding (Is it quantity or depth? Hmmm...); so much better than me. But then a bunch of people reply saying, "Yeah, you know, you have no chance at [insert good school]. At all. Go save the world and come back."

So is the caliber of CCers normal? Cuz then I'm screwed. Or is it above average? Thanks!

1) are nice
2) can be helpful if you ask nicely
3) do not represent the actual applicant pool
4) hate trolls and flamers
5) have an unwritten code of ethics that we follow
6) don't necessarily tell the truth about out calibers.

Yeah, we're not perfect. Or even all in the top ranks of our school. I rather think those who post their stats are either really insecure or trying to find SOME hope, that we can't find at our (useless) high school. (Me...)

Either than that, we try to be helpful, honest and repy in a courteous manner, though sometimes it DOES get out of hand. I'm an int'l kid and so I especially love the "International Student" forum, but other forums are really cool, as well.

As for the PARENTS, they absolutely all rock. Their answers tend to be more in-depth and sometimes they offer alternatives that are actually well-researched instead of hearsay. I'm not trying to discredit high school CC'ers' advice, though. We all have good and bad points to what we say and how we say it.

As for the posts you're referring to, most of those applicants are shooting for HYPMS/Ivies/Ivy-caliber schools and those are ABSOLUTELY random (it seems) so people tend to be cautious and say "You won't get a sure shoot" instead amazing stats and EC's.

Campuses usually tend to look for diversity, either in activities, personality types, even grades, I guess. Good luck with your application process and don't be afraid to shoot for the stars!

Also most seem to first join to inquire about their chances (no wonder what are my chances is often our first post) but stay to get info or share info with each other. Some people here r overly paranoid which is sometimes really annoying but most r good people including me ;)

also, being new here means you should watch your posts carefully. some posters here are highly regarded and respected within the CC community, so if you are not aware and ignorantly start lambasting them for whatever reason, you're not going to live a happy life (in this part of the cyber-world, at least).

tread carefully until you're comfortable with this place. We love to help, but we have our ethics to follow too.

if you want to start a conversation about aviation or dippin dots, i'm here for thee
yeah watch out for parents. most of them don't put their age so you think you're talking to a dumb 16 year old when really the parent with 3 children knows a heck more than you do.
i miss mommy

I totally agree with don't make respected people mad at you. You will be disliked greatly. it's weird, but there's a hierarchy around here, and things work in a certain matter. We can be the nicest people, or the meanest. Most people here have an inferiority complex and are insecure (well for the what are my chances threads anyways) but most of the itme were a pretty friendly group. Banedon is right- there's a certain code around here.

LOL, so true. It's not that hard to pick out parents, though. Three tips:
1) They'll almost always have mom/mother or dad in their names.
2) They'll refer to their S or D.
3) Their posts are more than 200 words long.

And yes, CC'ers tend to be the cream of the crop, although this is not always true. A brief glimpse at past admissions threads will reveal this. There was a thread a while back about the Average SAT on CC, and I think it hovered around 1470-1490.

CC'ers also tend to be (overly, perhaps) focused on the Ivies and other top universities, although this is particularly true of new CC'ers.

Also, if you make a comment or give some #'s, be prepared to have a link to back it up. Most CC'ers want proof.

oh my lord celebrian u are a beast. 8120 posts.

Just think, she's only gotten 8120 posts in one year. I shudder to think how many posts she had on the old CC... :p

As other people have mentioned, don't worry about the stats of other CCers; most of the students here represent the best that the US and other countries have to offer.

To add on to the list of tips others have, try to avoid posting questions that could easily be answered by a quick search on Google/the university's website (ie. "When are the ED applications for X school due?")

to add to what they said, do a cc search before you ask a general question, because a lot of questions get asked 20,000 times when they could have just found it right under their nose
