New here - daughter's SAT score was lower than she expected...

If it is in your budget, a prep class (or tutor) is extremely valuable - one of ours was a really good student but just didn’t get the ‘how to take the test’ and her scores went up significantly. Incidentally it got her more $$ in merit aid having the higher score than the class cost us by far.

Study and retake. But I can tell you now, no matter what happens, do not allow her to focus on the T20s. Insist on a list of safeties, matches, and reaches that she’d be happy to attend and look affordable. Do not let her get obsessed with reach schools. She can have a few T20s on the list. But she should be focusing more on the matches and safeties regardless of how her test scores come out. They take more time to find, and are more realistic for where she is likely to attend.

This is really great advice for everyone, especially those in the upper middle salaried class (i.e. comfortable but not $70k per year comfortable).
