ec: was a member in a few clubs (math club, medical club, spanish club, deca)..this is by far my weakest point..i had to work 30-40 hrs a week ever since i was a sophomore..not much time for anything else..did about 100 hours of community service at local library..
essay & recs were decent..nothing amazing

so far i have gotten into georgia tech, university of miami, and slu..

Even though I promised myself I wouldn't comment on any more chance me posts,
I can't help noticing your hefty work schedule -- 30-40 hours a week shows true determination and commitment. A Nebraskan who's held down a full-time job throughout high school ... that's impressive.

Standardized Tests - Good
GPA - ok - but prob needs to be in the 3.9s to be sure

Everything else looks good enough - u never know what will happen - only a few weeks left!!!!

im against chance threads but - mite as well try my chance thing - what are my chances?

pvtejasvi - stop hijacking the OP's thread. If you want to get "chanced," make your own thread. Don't be rude.

nicole716, I fully agree with Ottoline, 30-40 hours of work is very impressive and being from Nebraska in itself will definitely go for your advantage. I haven't met anyone yet from Nebraska (though a few from Colorado). Geographical location is a sure plus. ;)

What do you want to study? Other than the overlap of engineering strengths between Georgia Tech and Rice, I don't really see a connection and relation to UMiami and SLU. Then again, I'm not familiar with UMiami or SLU, maybe their strengths are also in engineering, I don't know.

Also, what is your ethnicity? If you're an underrepresented minority (that is, black or Hispanic), I would say that you are most likely accepted. If not, I still think you've got a very good chance. :)

And GPA definitely doesn't need to be in the 3.9's... mine was 3.6 unweighted (4.4 weighted), but then again GPA can only be taken in context of how competitive your high school is and how rigorous your courseload (that means don't go running off and say oh you just need a 3.6!). And then you have to account for test scores, EC's, essays, and recs--do NOT solely focus on one aspect as EVERYTHING will be taken into account. Yes, academics are the most important, but there's the rest of your application as well.

And that was my case, a lot of people I know here had 3.9+ so I feel pretty good that Rice took me.

sorry!!! - didnt know how to make thread - it was frozen

Wow in regards to the OP we have SIMILAR stats (i have a 3.85 UW GPA and more EC's) and im applying this year.
Good Luck I definitely think your in :)
