Anyone interested in both honors and national scholars program at clemson should be aware that there is a new application to the honors college that students will have to complete (should be up later in september). used to be that students were simply invited to join the honors program based on SAT/ACT, grades and class rank -- now students who are at a high level (1350+, top 3-5%) are eligible to go to a special honors app AFTER submitting the clemson general app.

And because students in the national scholars program (top, fiiull ride scholarship at Clemson) HAVE to be in the honors program, the national scholars program will consdier ONLY those who have submitted BOTH the CU and honors app by the end of this year. they should have info on the new app and deadlines, etc, up soon.

Just to clarify for you all:

Clemson Honors College -- You have to be invited. You usually get an invitation 2 weeks after your application is sent. If you submit a better SAT score after applying, you application will be reviewed automatically for honors college. No guaranteed scholarship. You have to ACCEPT your invitation online. That is the acceptance form you see online.

Clemson Calhoun Scholars: AFTER you are accepted into Clemson Honors College, you may apply to Calhoun Scholars. This application is online. There is no scholarship here. It is more opportunities for research, rounding our your education, foreign travel.

Eureka: Summer program you apply to. It is FREE. Live and research on Clemson. Whitewater rafting, meet with your mentor, research in the labs, tours of plants in area, etc. Limited to honors students in first two years. Room and board and all activities are paid for.

National Scholars: I wouldn't even hope to get into this unless your M/V on your SAT was over 1500 and you had plenty of APs or college courses under your belt before you apply. This is by invitation only. You do have to have your application in before December. That includes SAT scores. This is the one with the free ride. Usually around 50 percent in state, 50 percent out of state.

Provisional Acceptance into Clemson University (even before application) as early as the end of your Junior year is common for about 200 in state students if they submit their SAT scores to Clemson, provided they are strong SAT scores over 1200.

Actually, the invitation to the honors college is being eliminated beginning with the 07-08 cycle -- there will be an application up soon (supposedly) through the admissions links, and students who meet honors criteria can submit the applications, which will be the basis for selection to both honors programs (university and calhoun scholars) as well as the primary basis for national scholars. Neither office has updated their web sites to reflect this new process (the Nat Scholars have changed there's to "new info coming soon"), but I promise this is the case.

Thank you Intheknow.
