From today's Rice Thresher (campus newspaper):

Admissions has recieved 2,933 complete ID applications, plus an additional 74 applications that are complete except for the application fee. This is down from 3,348 ID apps last year. Ann Wright, the Dean of Enrollment attributes the decline to selective schools having SCEA, and people not understanding that they can apply SCEA somewhere and then ID to Rice.

Like many other schools, Rice expects total applications to be equal to or slightly less than the amount recieved last year (Last year Rice recieved 8,106 applications for 720 spots).

Of this year's 720 spots, 162 were given to ED students. Last year 163 of 720 spots were ED applicants.

do you know how many people applied ED this year?

yes.
ED apps were down 13% to 480 this year. This follows a national trend of decreasing ED apps resulting from HYS going to EA.

Do you by any chance know how many were accepted from ID last year?

This is not last year, it's 2 years ago, but maybe this will help:

Interim Decision:
Number of interim decision applicants 2,933
Number accepted 826** (28%)
Number enrolled 269 (33%

**Thirty-five (35) were deferred and admitted under Regular Decision.

oh thanks jenskate, that's really helpful!

If the number of applications decreased, and if they accept around the same number of ID applicants as last year (as they did for ED), maybe it means it'll work in our favor. And make me feel a little more optimistic as well. :D

Anyway, it's kind of scary thinking that they might have already decided on my application already.
