New+Incoming Students Getting Classes

Hi! I’m transferring to UCSC in the Fall. I was looking at the class schedule for the Fall and so many of the classes are already 50% or more full! I was wondering, does anyone have experience with whether it’s hard for new students to get the classes they want at UCSC? Or is there generally enough space leftover by the time we can start enrolling in classes?

Also, can we not enroll in classes until the orientation in late July?

I’m also curious if others have an answer to this general question.

You can not enroll in classes until Orientation in late July. If you don’t make it to orientation you must wait till all orientations are over.

I assume the reason many classes are 50% full is that current students have already registered for classes for the fall. Looking at class schedules it looks like some common freshman classes don’t even have all spots open at this time.

I believe they reserve spots for new students. So even if it looks like a class is full right now, I think they will give you an add code during orientation.
