My d just received an award. Is there any point in updating the colleges, or is it too late in the process?

i'd say it is too late

Unless it is amazingly prestigious I would say don't waist the effort. They probably won't change their mind unless she basically cured cancer.

Last week, I received both a statewide and a national honor, one of which was a rare achievement for even an undergraduate, let alone a high school student. I definitely let schools know.

Good luck!

That would definitely be something to tell them about, but local or school wide, not so much.

i just got a county-wide award...unfortunately it is too late, since we only have 10 days until decisions. this probably wouldn't have affected my decision anyway, but it would've been nice to know that i gave it my best shot. 10 days! good luck!

i dont think its TOO late...i just emailed my rep bout a recent award i received....i don't see how it can hurt, so why not try?

Probably too late, but send it in and let them be the judge of what's too late and what's not.

Has anyone heard of AFS Awards for Excellence?

Do you at all list school-wide awards on your application, or would it look overeager (trying to increase your chances by listing any little thing)? My school hands out awards at the end of each year to student who excel in each subject, and I've received a few, but I don't know if putting them on the app would look petty.

Put them down, it wouldn't hurt.

Yes it would. Putting down miniscule non-important awards will look like you lack significant awards and are making up for them by inserting lesser known ones. It's a form of resume building and the adcoms know that. I wouldn't waste their time with pointless school awards.

I don't know about the school awards... My guidance counselor told me to write them all down, but she doesn't know shit, so...

oh man. are you kidding. that's like all i have. those darn school awards which at my school are rough to get and so i felt they were a big deal...gawd. and i was being so chill about this homestretch to decisions, que sera sera, not fretting anything..ugh now i have something to stress about

it's okay that i put the Mt. Holyoke Book Award down, right? my GC said it was good...
