New Innovation Academy Admitted Students FAQ

I figured I'd make a thread to post this for those who have gotten into UF's IA program:

University of Florida - Admissions

So, it seems that it's basically the same as traditional UF, but just on a different schedule. And the curriculum will be a bit different. Housing is offered only in Beaty East Towers for the first year. After the first year, housing for UF IA students will be on a space available basis (in which if I'm not mistaken, that's the same thing for traditional students too).

No fall semester on campus housing for IA students. For those wondering why this is, at UF, if you're not a full time student, you won't get on campus housing. This goes the same for traditional students. So IA students have a Fall semester that is considered the "off term" and they can't be full time students at UF during that time....thus, no housing at UF. Just like a traditional student's summer term is their "off term" and without being full time, they get no housing on campus.

I beg to differ. Traditional students are allowed on campus housing during their summer term. (if they are a full time student). So why can’t IA students be allowed on campus housing for their fall term (if they are a full time student). That makes absolutely no sense to me, and it seems though IA is just complete bogus.

I am a current Uf “traditional” student. The idea is UF is crammed full of kids. Each year they accept more kids than there is room for. This always makes the beginning of the fall semester a mess bc they cram 3 people into 2 person dorms. They end up begging people to move off campus. Its redic. IA allows UF to make more use of the campus during the summer term, when there are a lot less kids. The reason UF wont let IA take fall classes (like a traditional kid can take summer) is that the campus is already filled to capacity and there are no open housing options.

I dont think anyone from Uf will officially say that but I believe thats the unofficial reason behind IA

Because the whole point of IA is to accommodate students in a different timeframe since UF is getting so crowded.

I believe that UF enrollment has actually been dropping over the years. Not due to lack of interest, but because they are simply admitting fewer freshmen.

Doesn’t US News and World Report use the Fall semester to determine its freshman statistics (to judge a schools “selectivity”)? I wonder if this may be a motive as well–a way to get tuition dollars from the marginal applicants while keeping them “off the books.” I don’t know if that’s the case, but schools seem to be under intense pressure to cater to USNWR rankings these days.

@Agentk

It’s impossible to be a full time student in the fall as an IA student. That terms is left for online classes, internships, jobs, and etc. It’s the “off-term” for IA students. They still get the same education and have the same requirements to fulfill, but, UF IA students are merely restricted from physical classes in the fall.

@Got Big Dreams

UF has confirmed one of the reasons it made IA is because they want to admit more kids when theres more space. But now, they are doing cool colloquias, seminars, and etc. for IA students. And the education and stuff to study are still the same for each respective major, IA student or not. And IA does not make it easier to get into UF. That’s been confirmed.
