just watched this-- and want to tell everyone about it!

it's something like Harvard's own version of The Daily Show asking Harvard's Admission DEAN (!!) William Fitzsimmons who gets into Harvard-- and he tells us!

200-300 high achievers w/ international/national acclaim, 200-300 amazing academics, and 1500 or so all-arounders?! Unbelievable. Seriously, just watch YouTube - Harvard Admissions Dean Fitzsimmons Interview (On Harvard Time)

what does everyone think?

Nice, funny interview. Note to self: Enclose dark chocolate with D's application.

25,000 applications for 2,100 positions - 10%. Looking for character and personality qualities. 200 kids taken off the waitlist last year.

I think he said: "Godiva dark chocolate".

"200-300 high achievers w/ international/national acclaim, 200-300 amazing academics"

I read similar statement by Mr. Fitzsimmons somewhere before and thought that Harvard Admissions would follow that. But they did not honor that last year (probably other years before), which really make me doubt the competence of some admission officers. If your S/D belongs to that 200-300 group and failed to get in, don't be surprised. He/ She will get into other top schools.

they take other things into account, though, he says, like personal characteristics.
so it's more than just having unbelievable academics, but also having other qualities...

he also says he doesn't like cookies
guess no one can be perfect!
