New Jeopardy host preference? / Jeopardy updates

I see no press release from Sony Entertainment. The initial report seems to have come from Variety and everyone else is using that as their source. Variety, which ostensibly knows the difference between year and season, said the two will share hosting duties through the end of 2021. That can change if they don’t announce a new host in time for the Spring tapings, of course.

Seems a little like saying it doesn’t matter if Heidi Klum doesn’t want to go out with me because I changed my mind about wanting to date her anyway.

Jeopardy website:

They specifically note the calender year not 38th season. Will be 8 weeks of shows airing after Nov 4 (if no weeks off for new episodes) before end of the calendar year. And rest of the season as well airing in 2022.

Can you blame LeVar? After a good bit of negativity on his performance (here on CC and elsewhere!) he’s smart enough to get the message that the fit wasn’t right - no matter his initial desire. Of course he’d step back and say “nope, not interested anymore”.

Yes. I’m thinking he realized it wasn’t a his thing and he’s taking the high road.

Interesting. I didn’t realize that James had only 4 games that were not runaway wins.

Last night’s game was good. Matt’s competition was better tonight and if he hadn’t hit the double jeopardy questions, we might have had a good game. Couldn’t believe the number of questions he missed tonight! I got some of those right

I guess that was to clarify the confusion from other sources.

Based on the lack of chatter here, I assume Matt did not lose tonight.

DON’T SPILL ANY SPOILERS, PLEASE!!!

Our local station pre-empts Jeopardy during football season Fridays to air a NE Patriots “All Access” show. The Jeopardy episode will run at 2:37 AM Saturday. The DVR is set.

lol I’d stay off this thread if you don’t want spoliers.

Agree.

My local station airs Jeopardy at 3:30 pm each day and it was preempted during the Olympics. I believe you can watch on YouTube if you want to see it earlier than mid-week next week, @MADad. I only watch sporadically, but wanted to see the guest host during that time frame and watched an episode or two that way in late July.

Got to watch Friday Sept. 17 episode. Ho hum.

I thought it ‘interesting’ that Mike closed with ‘see you on Monday.’ My understanding is that they film 5 episodes on Tues and another 5 on Weds., two weeks worth. He must have finished on Tues and been immediately fired.

As you say, they film a week’s worth of episodes in a day. They even project when the episode will air, as the host will make reference to holidays, etc. Wouldn’t you just assume that the last episode filmed on a given day will air on a Friday, and the next one will air on a Monday (holiday excluded). Maybe I just don’t understand where you’re coming from re: your comment? They wouldn’t fire him in the middle of a day’s filming, would they? Or I’m missing something obvious in your post. Please help me out and explain!

I was suggesting that they filmed one day (5 shows) and he commented that he’d “see us on Monday”. Usually they film 2 days per week (10 shows), so it appears he worked one day, expected to film a second week’s worth of shows the next day, but was fired either the evening after taping or the next morning before taping.

Hard on Matt who was probably expecting to film another 5 days but had to delay again, after just delaying for the change of season, to wait for a replacement host to be named. Not sure how long it took to name Bialik and get her to the studio but I doubt it was the next day.

And that’s why he said he’d see us on Monday. He expected to still be around. It actually would have seemed odd if he hadn’t said that.

I’m just surprised at the timing. Say the taping was on Tues. They let him tape that day, probably taking 6-8 hours, and then pulled the plug and didn’t let him tape the next day? What kind of talks were taking place that day? Mike obviously wasn’t in on them. It was a big production day, with the dedication of the Alex stage and Ken and past champions being there.

If they were so close to firing Mike, why not pause the tapings that week and just start fresh the next week? Yes, I know there was grumbling about the selection going on, but there was also grumbling about Mayim and there is still unhappiness about Ken and his history of posts, so what happened THAT DAY that caused the immediate removal?

Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on.

They had to keep moving in terms of taping shows. New season was starting in a few weeks.

They ultimately did cancel taping the day that Mike was fired/stepped down.

Decision was made to go with Mike knowing at least some of the info that was negative about him. Show presumably thought initial negative reaction would die down. But instead it grew louder. So I could understand that at some point they reached a breaking point and didn’t necessarily have the opportunity to plan when they got there.

I do like Mayim as host. Hopefully she and Ken can steady the ship for now.

I think Mayim did well last night. For the first time in a long time I didn’t find myself thinking about who was the host while watching the show. To me that is what makes a good host.

Early in the show, it seemed like she was trying to correct Matt’s response of “What” rather than “Who” when answers were a person. At least one time she ruled after Matt said “What is…” with that is correct, “Who is…” But she didn’t do that for long.

Matt had a big lead last night going into Final Jeopardy but it was not a runaway. And he got FJ wrong. I would think his mind was racing when Carlo got FJ correct (and Matt thus knew he did not) that had Tracy gotten the FJ correct, Matt’s streak was over. Was good to see Carlo get FJ correct because he had a tough day prior to that and at least he can say he got FJ correct and was the only contestant who did. Tracy played a very good game and would have won had she gotten FJ correct.

Matt has now won with 6 different hosts. Would think that is a record that isn’t broken. He has done better earlier in the week than at the end of it (some level of fatigue taping 5 shows a day). Yesterday was something of an odd day I would think for him because he was ready to play the first game of Richard’s second week but that got delayed (not sure for how long though). Shall see how long his streak goes.
