I think Mayim is doing well hosting the college tournament . I like Ken for the regular show.
Good mix of schools. The kids from public schools, although underrepresented in the competition, have done quite well.
My husband went to Carnegie Mellon over four decades ago. I chuckled when I saw what the CMU girl was wearing. He has the same sweatshirt, but he bought it well over 20 years ago! I told him he needs to break it out for the semifinals!
Yale kid messed up his FJ bet. Had he bet nothing, he would have advanced. His best hope was a double stumper (which he got) but he bet too much to take advantage of that.
The semifinals are set. They just updated the last 2 additions on the Jeopardy site . They have the Georgetown guy that just won being from Northeastern but I’m sure they’ll correct it .
I think it’s fun to pick someone to root for so here are my picks for the winner in each semifinal- Kennesaw State, CMU, LSU, UVA.
Yes, I was referring to the Georgetown info being wrong in the bracket info. Hopefully, it will be fixed soon, if it hasn’t been already.
I am rooting for CMU because it is husband’s alma mater( as well as his dad’s, Carnegie Tech), UVA because it’s a son’s alma mater(now I’ll have to break out my old sweatshirt for that!), and Kennesaw State and LSU because these are guys from Georgia and Louisiana, representing their public schools. The UVA contestant is from Virginia. Good showing for public schools this time.
On another note, I’m not disappointed that there is a new winner in regular Jeopardy. The 3 time winner was okay but the arm crossing was just not appealing to me. Strange, I know, but i just won’t miss it. Now, the mohawk, maybe.
Its correct in the listing for today’s match-ups. But not in the bracket. But the shows were taped weeks ago so winners have been determined at this point. And confident they will not make the Georgetown kid wear a Northeastern sweatshirt for the first game tonight.
To me, Pomona and Kennesaw were the most impressive in their respective games of the 6 contestants tonight. But new round with different categories and questions. Will be interesting to see how the “win and you may be in” rule impacts betting in the games tonight and tomorrow.
At least they have it right in the matchups for today. But, I do think it’s funny that Jeopardy has yet to fix it to Georgetown in the bracket listings.
Not sure how many people are looking at the site/brackets. LOL Jeopardy never said (that I saw) how the brackets for the current round were determined. Saw something online indicating its based on scores going into Final Jeopardy. But that didn’t make sense because they were filling in the brackets as the games went along last week and you wouldn’t know seeding on that basis until all the first round games were complete. Then I remembered all the games are done (and were done before the first game aired) so they know who should be seeded where.
Well, he is finally showing from Georgetown and not from Northeastern in the brackets! I’m guessing the site gets enough hits that it is very surprising that it would take so long to get it right.
Different round; similar results. One runaway (with a contestant who will advance to the final) and a close game (with a contestant who was in second in the first round but was the only one to get FJ right and thus advanced doing the same thing in the semis–due to the format though we don’t know if he will advance yet). Have to wait until tomorrow. May regret that final bet wasn’t more but we shall see.
A lot of contestants mess up betting. But part of the issue tonight I think was at least the newness of the format for this tournament. In semifinals of tournaments (prior to this one), you bet to maximize your chance of winning the game because all you had to do was win to advance. He bet enough to ward off the third place contestant. Presumably he figured he would lose if the first place contestant got FJ correct. Makes sense unless you are in a “win and maybe you advance” format. Needs to wait for at least the first game tomorrow to know if he will advance. May need to wait for second game as well.
The kid from Kennesaw plays like Jennings.Holhauzer/Scheider, etc. --machine-like. He doesn’t have to think about where he’s going next–as soon as answer is approved, boom, he’s off.
Gonna need to see tonight’s results, but he’s my choice to win thus fa.
Of the games that aired so far, Kennesaw has the 2 highest scores going into Final Jeopardy. Been impressive so far no doubt. Plays a quick game with broad knowledge.
Two very close games including one with a tie breaker question. Still is such an odd result that the kid from Stanford exits the tournament having won both of his games. Will be in the second chance tournament but that likely has him running thru 14 other contestants and 2 more rounds to reach a final of that tournament.
Should be a good two game final next Tuesday. Nice that its back to back shows rather than over 2 days.
I really don’t understand the logic with how they’ve decided to go by the most money. So much depends on the categories you get, your opponents in your game. The Final Jeopardy in the first game tonight seemed easy compared to the Final Jeopardy in the second game. It just seems so random and with some luck involved.
Looking forward to the final next week. I’ll be rooting for Kennesaw State, since my other 3 favorites are already out.
