Yeah, my friends who applied for NJGSET haven’t received word yet. So I guess sending an abstract from NJGSS should reflect well with college apps? Can past alums offer insight into how exactly projects are chosen at the beginning of the program?

I’m not a past alum (obviously, haha) but I read somewhere that we pick the projects when we pick classes. I think we rank the projects we’d like from most to least (same with the classes) and then they place us.

Does a candidate with all As, all honors/AP sciences/maths, average/slightly above-average recommendations, above-average essays, strong/above-average ECs(lots of leadership and passion, but none that are directly related to science because of school limitations), a perfect 80 on the math psat, have a shot of getting in?

I’m freaking out about this holy cow… if I got in my summer schedule would be finalized and PERFECT. Uggggghhh can anyone alleviate my stress? ANyone know how they select candidates? Do they value certain ECs over others?

@ WhiteBoy. I think your stats should be fine. From what I’ve heard, gov school doesn’t emphasize one ec over another. As long as you’re adequately involved you shouldn’t have a problem. Also, your standardized test score is definitely up to par. I think it all boils down to the essay at this point. If you’re confident that the rest of your app is above average and your essays are decent, you’re probably a shoe-in.

Hey guys! Basically one month left till the annoucement! Ahhhh x) In response to the conversation about who they pick, it’s just the 90 or so best applicants…They don’t consider race, sex, location, county or anything. @Skittsie13 I’m from Sussex too!!! :] Oh and for those who don’t know, Drew is absolutely gorgeous…I just did a college tour there a few weeks ago And they just re-did one of the freshman dorms and it’s VERY nice :)

Ahh, someone else from Sussex! It’s rare enough to meet someone who even knows where our county is, let alone someone who actually lives there. Glad to hear that Drew’s campus is nice! At least one of my friends will be attending next year.

I’m so scared for the decision date, it’s so soon and I really want to get in. Also, my birthday is the first day of gov school, so if I didn’t get in, I think my birthday would be such a sad day haha.

Interesting that they don’t consider anything else besides merit, that makes it a lot different from college apps.

still, the application process is very similar to college applications in that they view all candidates holistically, as far as I believe. a candidate with amazing credentials who can’t write the essay will probably not make the cut.

True, but that’s in any application process. What’s cool here is that all the little factors that can greatly influence a committee’s decision in college admissions (geographic and ethnic diversity, first-generation, legacy, etc.) don’t at all play a part here.

So, did anyone apply to any other summer programs? I was going to apply to RSI and then I realized I had no chance of getting in. Same with SSP, but I don’t really like physics or astronomy. If I don’t get in, my plan is just to take classes at a local community college or something.

18 more days…

17 more days…

14 more days…

9 days!

Also, this made me laugh a lot: [NJGSS 2011 Program](NJGSS 2011 Program)

Did we sign the contract already? Or, we sign the contract if we accepted?

6 Days…

Seeing it says “congratulations on your acceptance!” or whatever on the form, I would assume we fill it out if we’re accepted. One week!

4 more days

Tomorrow!!

Ahhh so nervous. I feel like not that many people, at least not on CC, applied this year. Weird?

I’m so nervous, haha, I’m freaking out. I’m so scared of getting rejected. :\ I agree though, it’s pretty weird, this thread is pretty empty and it’s only a few people, so hopefully that transfers into a higher acceptance rate! Is it just my school, or is the class of 2012 smaller than the rest?
