New Jersey Governor's School of Engineering and Technology 2014

I wrote about how I want to work on robotics in order to alleviate human sacrifice and suffering for short response 3. I don’t know how the readers are going to react but I worked really hard on it. I really hope that they disregard the online application because I had no clue about it.

I read the whole application and it does not mention the online section at all. You guys can double check if you want.

EDIT:
Apparently, I can’t read the cover sheet. My bad. Disregard this.

The scramjets part seems very obvious now that you’ve explained it haha. Have you heard of plasma actuators? Kinda related to scramjets but more precise. Would be cool to get them more powerful.

@Hawkace
Don’t worry about that anymore. Just fill it out now. I’m pretty sure that the choosers will see a bunch of kids didn’t do it and it will be waived.

OMG. It says that the confirmation after the application needs to be printed and attached to the application. I’m actually really worried right now. Should I call them tomorrow to see what will happen?

@PorcupineCup No I haven’t. They seem very interesting. Precision is always important, especially over such distances such as air/space travel. As for speed, improvements in propulsion systems can/will make more of a difference than pretty much any other part of the plane, so the fact that plasma actuators don’t give too much of a speed boost isn’t a terrible thing.

@Hawkace You should probably email them now. The confirmation they send out after receiving the apps occurs sometime in February. Maybe they’ll give you some leeway before then.

The thing is that I don’t have half of the stuff required on the application. I have to meet my counselor in order to do that. I’m in a pickle right now. Tomorrow, I will call them regarding and let the cards play out. Did all of you guys fill out the application and attach the printed confirmation to the application?

I did. There wasn’t a specification where to put it so I put third, after the cover sheet and checklist since those are the only two specified.

I attached it too, but I think the printed confirmation was just to make sure that you filled the online thing out. I’m sure it will work out for you so just chill out for now and go for a run or something.

Hey guys,

I know I’ve asked this before on here, but what other programs specifically are you thinking of applying to as back-ups? I was considering applying to RSI at MIT, but the deadline is coming up really soon and I don’t think I would have enough time to complete the application.

I would really love to attend GSET or a program similar to it this coming summer. Thanks in advance for your input. :)

I know gov school is competitive, but RSI looks hardcore. Unless that application is meant to scare people, I don’t think I’m qualified. I’m not sure I’m interested in it anyway.

I haven’t applied to any other programs yet, but I plan to. I was going to do NJ scholars but I learned about it a week before the due date and the application was lengthy.

Hey ryan, did you fill out the online portion of the application?

I’m applying for future economic leaders of america, CTY, MITES, and Brown,

I’m thinking of applying to a research opportunity somewhere. I know Princeton has a program, anyone else recommend anything?

Hawkace, I filled it out a couple days ago and my guidance counselor faxed it over. Gset said it isn’t a problem as long as my application was postmarked on the right day.

@ryan96
Nice! Glad to hear things worked out on your end. haha bet a bunch of kids panicked over that.
I’m kinda mad our school didn’t even mention njsp, and I don’t think our school even knows that it exists. Would rather go to gov school, but it doesn’t feel right that no one at our school could even apply.
I might also apply to the Princeton summer research, Boys State or just continue my material sciences research if nothing works out. GSET is my first choice, though.

@PorcupineCup Where do you do your material sciences research?

That’s good news. Just refer to me as Hawk. Hawkace is too long. LOL. I’m doing my online portion now so I can fax it over tommorrow.

goodness, just found out that I printed the wrong confirmation page. E-mail went to my dad’s email which he never checks.

Oh I might have faxed the wrong one too then. Ill check with my parents and see what they got.

FYI it says in the e-mail you get from the J. Antoine guy to attach it with your app. It’s basically your online app in plain-text form. Probably faxing it tomorrow from school, too.

@BlackDog: Here’s the link to the Princeton opportunity (scroll down to the high school one)…app not posted yet.
