Anyone else apply to NJSP this year? I'm still waiting on my decision for semifinalist, though we are supposed to be notified by the end of this month...

Yes ! Me too I’ve been waiting for a while now and I heard it’ll be out in a day or two

Well, its not coming today for me. If everything is on schedule, I’m sure it will be out by tomorrow.

So nervous about this. 10% acceptance is already low, and the nomination process by the schools makes sure that everyone is well qualified!

I’ll be sure to report back with my results when they are available.

Good luck everyone!

I got my letter yesterday and made it to the semi finals:) good luck to all of you too!

My son made into semi finals. Good luck everyone applied.

Hey! I am a semi finalist! Good luck to everyone !

Hi everyone! I’m a scholar from last year, and I just would like to congratulate everyone for making it so far! The application process can be extraordinarily selective. I look forward to meeting some of you at the interview dates!

If anyone has any questions about the program, feel free to let me know. I’ll be happy to provide insight.

Hi GWU2018,
How was your experience as a NJSP scholar? How has the program benefit you?

@Dianap00: Let me first begin with how the program has benefitted me, because it is particularly difficult to express the extent to which I have reaped the benefits from. I grew up in an urban community, and attend a high-school that lacks a lot of educational resources. I was extremely blessed to have excellent teachers that pressed my academic boundaries. Yet, the New Jersey Scholars Program acted as an equalizer to me and the other students from around the state—and the program administrators really do an amazing job of brining diversity (social and economic) into the program.

The program was five-weeks, all-expenses paid. Our program topic was: “Immigration: Demographic Disaster or Cultural Recreator?” Every morning (during the weekdays) there was a lecture by one of the faculty members. Now, note: the faculty members are actually immersed scholars in their fields of study, and some have even taught at the top universities of the United States. Scholars are taught by faculty who truly understand the topic, and are prepared to expand every scholar’s academic boundaries to think about new worldly concepts. The seminar classes are an extension of lectures, and there are seminar classes with every faculty member—the facilitated discussions, which are proctored by the faculty member, with other scholars really enhances analytical thinking and forces students to realize opposing perspectives.

Because of our location next to Princeton University, many of us were able to visit the university and spend time in the town. There are plenty of opportunities to have a social life with other scholars because of the campus, and off-campus sites. There are plenty of facilities for recreational use. I would argue one of the best aspects of the program is the friendships that are developed with all of the scholars.

Aside from the learning experience (which is phenomenal), and the social experience (which is priceless); the program has provided me with plenty of preparation for my academic career on the collegiate level. After writing our research papers, our faculty members provide us with an evaluation of our performance—I was able to get a faculty member to write one of my recommendations on the Common App, which was one way to distinguish my application. To be a member of an extensive alumni network that have attended top universities around the world, I felt honored to be immersed with a class of students that I know will go on to do great deeds for the world.

Thank you GWU2018 for your insightful response.

Anyone who has gotten in this year, Congrats!

Hey everyone, I’m a 2015 NJSP semifinalist. I have a friend who is an NJSP alumni and he promoted the program for me so much that now I really badly want to get into the Scholars Program. My interview is coming up in 4 days…so naturally I am full of excitement and nerves! I really wanted to know if anyone can tell me about the questions they got in the interview? What were they or what type of questions were they? Any tips on how to respond and maybe give myself (and my group) and edge on other participants?
